Bottle at home. Clear, light orange pour with a small, white head. Lots of that distinctive pasteurization odor on the nose, along with some cereal malts. Nice flavor, sweet and lightly doughy with some leaves, toast, light earth and resin. Mild bitters. Light bodied with average carbonation. Crisp, fairly sweet finish with touches of dry hops, slightly earthy.

Bottle at home. Clear, amber-gold with a fading, white head. Sugary nose with doughy malts and some sharp, leafy hops. Pretty sweet flavor, grainy, some hints of alcohol, mild, basic bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Crisp, bready finish, faintly sticky leaf and straw bitters. Decent.

Cask at The Cleveland Arms. Clear, amber-copper pour with a slight, bubbly head. Doughy malts on the nose with faint, ripe fruits. Pleasant enough flavor, certainly bready with mild, leafy and faintly soapy hops, along with light sugar. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet with hints of alcohol and fermented fruits, more bread, very faint bitterness. Not too bad.

500ml bottle. Pours gold with a large head. Aroma is grapefruit, orange and pale malt. Taste is grapefruit and pale malt to start, bitter citrus finish. Good level of carbonation but a bit of a thin ending.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours ruby-brown, no head. Light fruits and tar on the nose, with huge raisin notes. Mild dark malts in the flavor, very mild roast, very light sweetness. Medium in body with soft carbonation. Dry, extremely raisiny finish and, again, just lightly sweet. Alright beer, overall. I enjoy the raisin character but this aspect of the beer could stand to be bolstered by a bit more sugar.

Cask, handpump at The Rock of Gibraltar, Enslow, Oxfordshire, 01.01.11 Pours brown with a slim white head. Mmmhhh, fairly standard boring brown bitter, medium bitterness, bit fruity, caramel, lacking in hoppiness, really boring I’m afraid. A6 A3 T5 P3 Ov11 2.8

@ the Cumberland, Edinburgh. Bright amber, probably oversparkled. Relatively vague caramel aroma. Toasty with light caramel colour. Not the most sophisticated Brains beer but it’s okay.

Cask at the Cleveland Arms. Clear gold pour with a medium filmy head. Cracker malt aroma with light citrus and earth hops. Lightly sweet, lightly bready flavor with some faintly tart fruitiness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with malty sweetness, notes of caramel, bread, and understated citrus hops. Mildly warming. Decent brew.
