Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Can, 13C. Almost clear amber with a thick honey-cream head. Butterscotch nose with some apples and grass. Smooth mouthfeel. Tastes pretty caramel sweet with a little finishing bitterness. There are hints of sophistication in the malt, but it lacks character in the usual bottled bitter way.

4th November 2008. Clear brown beer, small white head. Tangy malt and fruit. Caramel, orange and a trace of grapefruit. Gives way to a dry finish where cinnamon, banana and bubblegum notes make themselves known at the very end.

Cask at the Colombia Press (JDW), Watford Rather unpleasant. Looks good, gold with a thin white head, but it’s downhill from there. Thin in body with sweet malts and some red fruit; then a finish that’s dry with a metallic bitterness. Perhaps this doesn’t travel well and it’s fine in Wales?

(can, 44cl, 3.5% abv) Slightly hazy, amber colour with a mid-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Moderately sweet and slightly sour fruity (cara-)malty aroma with a tinge of ginger and shy hoppy notes. Slightly sweet and minimal sour flavour, light bodied with a mild carbonation. Slightly fruity (cara-)malty taste with a slightly bitter hoppy blend, especially towards the finish. 07.X.09
