Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Draught at Haymarket. Pours a shiney copper colour with a decent head and very gentle bubbles. The nose has not much, there’s a hint of malt and hazelnut if you perservere. The taste is hazelnuts from start to finish as well as some bitter herbiness (perhaps parsley) kicking in towards the end. The palate is medium bodied and textured but there is a malt overhang on the end, rather than a clean hoppy finish. Overall, as Blackadder says about Baldrick’s poem ’’it didn’t start so well, it had a bit of a dodgey patch in the middle and it tailed off at the end’’.

Dark brown color, almost black, with medium sized head. Aroma of chocolate at first, then some light coffee, roasted malts, cream; very light yeast. Strong flavor of chocolate and coffee, roasted malt; the lean body and dry mouthfeel actually enhance the experience; correct bitterness. Balanced and fairly good.
