At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

(Draught at Hilpeä Hauki, 20120124) The beer poured almost black and clear. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had burnt and roasted malts. Palate was almost medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, roasted malts, grassy hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, burntss and bitter. A watery brew with decent flavours.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with medium off-white non-lasting head. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee beans and roasted malt with hints of dough. Taste is balanced bitter and sweet. Body is watery to oily with light carbonation and a good long bitter finish with hints of caramel and coffee.

Cask at The Elbow Room in Tottenham, London, the same evening as the riot started...Brains Black ....06 aug 2011. Roasted barley and toffe nose. Coffee and licorice flavour with some roasted malt.

Bottle from tesco. Near black with hints of red and next to no head. Sweet, mailk chocolate and liquorice aroma with some caramel in the background. Easy drinking, with more chocolate, some raisins and milky coffee, leading to a slightly dry finish. Good.

Fullbodied and warming. Rich for being 4,5%, toffee, caramel, sweet malts, nuts, and brown bread. Still a dry finish. Smooth. Hawklwy Inn, East Hants.

Cask @ The Libert Bonds, JDW, Tower Hill EC3. Pours a pale amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.
