Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Drucken på Hawkley Inn. Inte en öl som sticker ut, men välgjord ljus ale med med bra humleprofil åt citrushållet. Kanske fatet var lite gammalt för humlen stack inte riktigt ut som den borde.

Drunk during RWC semi-final. Nitro can. Not quite black with a scoop of beige head. Aroma of coffee, darkish caramel. A little thin, but not watery. Caramel, milky coffee, some nuts with a dryish finish. Not bad - soft refreshing and easy-going.

Bottle from Tesco (Original Stout)
Black, very thin ruby edge on glass, tan frothy head that dissipates almost to nothing.
Aroma of roasted malt, a lot of coffee, some dark bitter chocolate.
Taste of heavily roasted malts, burnt bread crust, bit of smoky wood, earthy hops. Fairly complex.
Very dry, roasted finish with earthy hops. Thin to medium body, average carb.
A lot of flavour for the abv but a bit thin, relying on mainly burnt notes and earthy hop. I prefer stouts that are richer with more body and abv. But it is quite a good beer. I doubt, though, it will become a ’classic’ stout.

Bottle from Tesco Extra, Bridgend, Wales shared with Gazza and dad consumed 01.09.1. This was labelled as Brains Original Stout Pours black with filmy off-white head. This is quite soft in the mouth, easy drinking beer, some caramel (picked out by Gazza) but there is a smooth watery milk chocolate. Its absolutely fine. We used the rest to make onion gravy I think it worked quite well. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3
