Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Clear beer colour, nice and soft white head. Smells crisp, some noble hops, bit of grain, soft. Nice body, bit firmer than pilsner, but still soft and easy. Soft malts, light sweetness, bit of hops, crisp bitter finish. Perfectly fine food beer.

16 oz. draft. Clear light gold color with a small white head and good retention. Very light aroma. Sweet malt flavor with only a hint of sulfur skunk. Medium-light body and very low, soft carbonation. Not bitter. Decent.

Slightly cloudy pale straw, frothy white head. Smells lagery, slight trace of skunk. Soft and light body, medium to low carbonation, super easy. Taste is clean and soft. Some sweetness, but finishing on a nice bitterness. Extremely well made stuff.

Bottle picked up at Kihoskh and drunk at home (29/10/2023) - Sweet wheaty and malty, notes of banana, light caramel, yeasts, body is not too bad overall for a AF, nice light touch of spice into the sweet finish. Pretty good stuff.

From bottle at Oktoberfest in Kristiansund 21.10.23. Clear golden. Dense and persistent foamy white head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of pilsner malt, grains and grassy hops. A very good German style pilsner.
