Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.
Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Botlle: Pale golden coloured, medium -sized, lasting head; slightly malty nose, some traces of citrus; moderate sweet flavour, bitter-sweet aftertaste; not so aromatic, but quite full-bodied and well rounded. Pleasant, good mouthfeel......

Bottle: Pale golden colour, lively carbonation visible, medium-sized, very long lasting white head; floral, a bit grassy, fresh hoppy and clean aroma; dry, malty start, only light sweetness; moderate bitter flavour; quite dry, aromatic hoppy finish; smooth and soft, very well rounded. A very good german "Pils", athough made in southern Germany.......an area not well-known for excellent beers in the Pilsener-style !

Pale blond color. Poor aroma, with some corn. Unblanced taste, with poor malt and hop aromas, but strong bitterness.

(bottle) Slight amber coloured with foamy medium white head. The aroma is malty and a bit sour and fruity. Light to medium bodied, grainy maltiness with a dry, bitter and quite lasting aftertaste, almost astringent. Good for a decent Pilsener, but rather weak for a Märzen, but I somewhat liked it, because of its slim but crispy character. My sample bottle was just before the expiry date and therefore quite “ripe”.

(bottle) Pale yellow colour with creamy white head. Herbal hoppy aroma, also the taste, with malts and hints of citrus fruits (oranges). Quite sharp, dry and bitter finish. Well balanced between sweetness and bitterness with a crispy texture. I like it.

Bottle. Yeasty malt aroma with clove and banana undertones. Cloudy tannish yellow color wtih large lasting head. Pretty sweet malt flavor but not a great deal of character - slight banana but that’s it. A bit on the watery side as well. Pleasant but not great.
