Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Bottle, thanks to Secret Santa Nat
Green golden, low visible carbonation, low creamy lacing head. Sweet malty aroma with flowery traces. Chevy sweet malt, light herbal counterpoint - nourishing, but overall a bit too sweet and cloying.

Bottle. Golden colour, small white head. Good mouthfeel. Very flavourful for a pils. Quite sweet, hop aromatic. Actually quite nice.

(Bottle 50 cl) Typical - not so pleasant - greyish orange appearance with a surprisingly small head. Good, fruity esters and a nice, dry freshness with the standard - almost - absence of bitterness. Above average Hefe. 091202

500 ml bottle, bought in Bier Spezi Hamburg. Typical hefeweizen enormous head which lasts "forever", very cloudy golden. Typical h.w. aroma of cloves and ripe bananas. Flavour is relatively dry with the typical hefe character, notes of cloves and herbal spices, moderate hops. Another very nice and refreshing h.w.!

(Bottle 33 cl) Fully golden, almost a fat pilsner without much head. Quite malty. They’ve obviously used adequate amounts of ingredients. Good harmonious hops. 180804 & 090103

Test vom 10.10.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,7,6,7,8,7 - 7,00

(Bottle 33 cl) Pale golden with a creamy head. Rather refined, hoppy aroma. Starts light and malty but then you’re hit by a sledgehammer of hoppiness in the finish. 170301 & 191102

(bottle) Cloudy & pale orange colour with a big but diminishing foamy white head. Aroma is full of yeasts and banana with a citric undertone. Malty and yeasty taste with some spice and a bitter note. A fairly good one.

A hazy orange beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is wheaty and soapwatery - and so is the flavor. A poor hefeweizen.
