Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

(Re-rate, keg at Pikkulintu Ruttopuisto, 20200717) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass and grain. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, grain, malts, lightly sweetness and not so strong bitterness. Aftertaste was grassy and bitter. An othwise pleasant and clean pils but the bitterness was too soft. Old rating: (Bottle on 2009-02-06) Golden and clear. Medium sized fizzy head that doesn’t disappear immediately. Grassy hops aroma. Medium bodied and dry palate with quite a lot of carbonation. Hops, bitterness, grass, fruitiness, hint of butter and bread in taste. Grassy and bitter aftertaste. 7-3-7-2-13

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Rather fresh notes of lemon pop in the nose. Light body, sweetish accents of lemon pop - appears to be naturally sweetened but I’m afraid it is not. A fairly decent Radler though. 280109
