Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.
Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Nice bright yellow, puffy head that sits perfectly atop the body. Aroma of corn and hops and alcohol, a little sour. Taste is soft malts and alcohol, but still very smooth. A pretty good pils.

0.33 L bottle from my friend Bjoern brought from his home in Germany. Labeled Zapfle! Nose of bananas, bubblegum, and light spiciness. Murky yellow orange with a medium off white head. Flavor is bananas, caramel, white pepperiness, and a slight bitterness.

Bottle looks very similar to the regular Tannenzäpfle, not bad. Beer in the glass quite zippy, small head. Starts mild, malty, modest hoppy, finish a bit moldy with the typical alcoholfree notes. But quite drinkable for a non alcohol beer, so - not bad!

Bottle in Gradi Plato bottleshop at RBESG Rome Day 2. Hazy yellow colour, thick rocky white head. Aroma of sweet fruity banana. Flavour is sweet banana, light spritzy CO2, bittersweet finish, light dry. Medium bodied. Maybe a bit sweet, but I liked this one a lot.

Had this in 0.33 l bottle side by side with 0.5 l bottle of "ordinary" pils, thanks to my parents for bringing it from Leipzig. It poured pale golden body with medium sized head. Some weak, but fine aroma of flowery hops. Honey malt was detected as well. Fine bitterish flavor, herbal and citrus hops with almost no malt. However, it wasn’t thin at all, pleasantly filled with very fine hoppy bitterish finish. Unlike many others, this is a fine German pils. Ordinary "Rothaus Pils" was less hoppy and malt was somewhat pronounced in its flavor, thus I liked it a bit less, but generally it’s fine enough to consider them together.

On tap, St. Margen, Germany. Pulpy orange-brown body, thick buff head. Estery, spicy nose with clove and banana. Spicy, somewhat sharp body with firm clove and banana, earthy, with an acidic bite. Quite good.

Both 0.33l as Tannen Täpfle and .5l as Pils, courtesy of heavy who shared it with me and whose parents got it in Germany (thanks!) Poured a pale golden body with a small thick white head that went away relatively fast. Honeyish and slgithly herbal hoppy nose. Ok nuff. The taste revealed more hopiness, piney, but pretty much no malt. Still, quite a drinkable beer, a pleasant German pils. The batch in the .5 bottle showed some malt and the hops were slightly tamer but all in all, the same thing.

Draught, crystal clear extremely pale yellow colour, spicey hop aroma with notes of black pepper, bread and vanila, medium bitterness with malty sweetness and a strong fruity sourness which dominates the aftertastewith a touch of malt. Extremely refreshing and very versatile with food.
