Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Bottle. Malt and flowery hops aroma. Light yellow color with moderate but quickly collapsing head. Slightly sweet malt and flowery hops flavor - very pleasant.. Pleasant but might be a bit too much on the floral side for some.

Bready nose with a hint solvent note. Nice orange coloring with a fluffy lacing head. Less than exiting flavor profile: a bit banana, a bit bread some metallic notes, but all pretty thin and one-dimensional. Lightish body, fizzy mouthfeel.

A light yellow beer with a fine white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of grain and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of grain and a dry hoppy end. A boring pilsener.

Pale gold, carbonated as fizzy Pilsener; slim rim for head. Pale malts, faint hops, very grainy nose. Pilsener-malty sweet, like a Belgian "Premium"-pilsener. Way too sweet and too bland. Light, sticky mouthfeel. "Eis" makes one think of Eisbock. But this is even too weak and bland for a decent Märzen.

The aroma is of a pasta dish and woody. The color is orange and it has a small disappearing head. The flavor is sweet, hoppy, malty, and grainy. Slight alcohol tingling across the tongue.

Bottled. Pale yellow, creamy head. Grassy nose, notes of herbs. Dry and clean with long bitter finish. Less crisp and distinct then the top examples of the style.
