Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.
Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

Bottle. Murky brownish orange with a dense inch of white head. Bready aroma with bananas and cloves. 7- And so so it tastes, although a bit of pepper joins the cloves at the end. Feels a bit heavy until the end. The finish lifts the sweetness away with spices and a nip of bitterness. Above average hefeweizen.

330ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange-gold, good sized head, plenty of retention. Aroma of wheat, banana, clove, quite sweet. Taste is semi-sweet, and some lovely mild spices coming through. Low bitterness but enough to contrast with the sweetness, a little dry. Moderate body and low carbonation works well. A good Weissbier.

Bottle from The Curious Hop, Otley. Pours a cloudy light orange colour with a large foamy white head. Strong aromas of bananas, cloves, yeast and bubblegum. Taste is the same notes again with some added peppery spice on the finish. Fairly light bodied, lively carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Better than average Hefe. Good.

330 ml bottle. Pours cloudy pale orange with a fluffy head. Very yeasty, a lot of wheat and hay as well as banana and clove, some floral notes (roses). Very light dry bitterness, some yeasty wheaty sweetness. Medium to full bodied, soapy milky texture, lively carbonated, dry and rather crisp finish for a Hefeweizen. Very nice!
