Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

14-01-17 // bottle. Sweet lemonade drink. The lemoande overweighs the beer totally. Doesnt taste like a 50/50 mix.

Clear golden/amber with almost no head. Aroma is crispy hops, lemon juice, some toast. Taste is a malty body with some alcohol, crispy sweetness and sourness, much hop tartness. Not so easy to drink due to the alcoholic feel in the mouth. Meh.

Bottle. Clear and bright. Quite typical for a Pils from southern Germany in its balance between hops and malts. Grainy, malty and low hoppy bitterness. Nice carbonation. Crisp, clean, delicate and thirst quenching. Decent German Pils and very sessionable.

On tap and 330ml bottle @Birrifugio Trastevere (Rome). Draft version is my favourite. Pours golden with a medium white head. Aroma of malt, honey, biscuits, bread, grass, light yeasts. Flavour is medium to heavy sweet with a delicate bitterness. Medium body, medium to light carbonation. Simple, but ok.

Many thanks for this beer to kevnic2008. Pianka malutka, sniezno biala, odrobinka metnosci, kolor jaskrawo zolty. W smaku delikatne malo slodowe, bez aromatu chmielu i w smaku takze specjalnie goryczki sie nie czuje. Limitowana seria na 225 lat browaru moim zdaniem nieudana.

Pours gold with a foamy white head that soon fades. Aroma has hints of lemon, corn, herb but is overall subdued. Taste trends sweet but is complemented by a green apple sourness. Underneath it all is a grainy bitterness with light metallic notes. Nice balance actually. Too bad I don’t particularly like it. Adequate carbonation over a medium body. Seems well made, but not up my alley.

Poured into a pilsner glass, the appearance was a yellow transparent color with a quickly dissipating finger’s worth of foamy to bubbly white head. No lacing.
The aroma starts off with clean sweet bready focused malts. Light grassy bitter hops.
The flavor leans towards the sweet side spreading over the bready malts. Clean sweet malty aftertaste with a quick malty sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a cleverly malty clean stickiness over my tongue, not cloying, but balanced and nice.
Overall, really nice German pilsener that I would have again. Thanks Rich C.
