Tap at Whip in, Austin. Slightly hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma has cinnamon and vanilla. Light-bodied. Pale malty, crisp backbone. Then cinnamon and vanilla. Exotic, not bad but not anything to drink in quantities.

Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Clear golden, mid sized head. Fruity nose with grass, bread and notes of strawberry. Mid sweet with light-medium body and firm, well rounded mouthfeel. Mellow and malt driven with bread and mild notes of butter, some hay and red berries. Low-medium bitterness. A helles with personality and drinkability. Even the most conservative old Bavarian villager would probably have nodded grumpily at this beer, and ordered another.

Shared 12 oz. can. Hazy pale gold, small white head. Aroma is snickerdoodle cookies with plenty of cinnamon. Taste is snickerdoodle, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, light malt. Perhaps a bit too much spice, but you can actually taste some beer in there. It’s drinkable and has a mildly bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to Robert. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is smoke, wood, roast, dark chocolate. Thick body, roast, smoke, peat, wood, dark chocolate, nice boozy finish, very nice.

Bottle shared. Black with a ring tan head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, fudge, malt, woody barrel notes and chocolate. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared by Tom, thanks! Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark grains with light scotch barrel and a bit of roasted malts underlying. Flavor has more of a scotch note with dark grains and roasted malts supporting.

Dark muddied brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head that fades fast. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, pit fruits, raisins, figs and quite a bit of bitterness, some from earth and some from light hops. Full-bodied; Strong rich alcohol flavours at first with grain, malt, caramel, toffee, earth and a bit of hop flavours near the end - deep and strong. Aftertaste is rich with the vanilla, oak, grain, earth and pungent pit fruits lending some nice complexities here. Overall, a very nice, complex and relatively easy-to-drink beer that must have mellowed out quite a bit, but this is nice to drink and dare I say, not a difficult beer to drink at 10+% abv. Worth trying if you can find this and hold onto it for at least a little bit of time. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Craft & Growler in Dallas, Texas on 01-September-2015 for US$4,49 sampled at home in Washington on 18-December-2016.

Recent discovery of a welcome Texas beer. I poured into a tulip glass. Yields a great dark yellow with an orange tint. Very dense. Good on the smell. Spruce and some spices. Taste tops the smell. Woody, a bit of lemon, orange peel, very much an IPA. A lot of depth. Stays on the palate. I appreciate Lost Gold from Real Ale but this is better.
