Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

From Good Times Oakland, canned May 27th.

Pours a rather clear pale gold with a finger of foam. Retention is very good, lacing is good.

Smell is big notes of pine, some grapefruit citrus, some dank notes, cracker malt.

Taste is pine, grapefruit citrus, a bit of dankness, cracker malt, resinous on the tongue.

Good mouthfeel, I would drink this again.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is complex, with lots of wood, oak barrels, and medium roast. Flavour is subtle and yet highly complex, with a wonderful whiskey barrel blend, light sherry, and loads of oak. Surprisingly light-bodied, yet ridiculously complex. Beauty.

Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma has a lot of barrel, it's quite toasty. It's got a lighter body, with the barrels, the body is lighter, the whiskey a bit rougher, but the base is solid. But that toasty, nuttiness is quite good.

On tap at DownTime Taps, pours jet black with a small brown head. Nose is decadent and complex, with deep bourbon barrel complexity, vanilla, brown sugar, and some molasses. Flavour is likewise rich, with elegant bourbon barrels, sticky dark sugars, molasses, vanilla, and some treacly notes. As usual, wonderful barrel treatment. Intense yet complex and balanced. Beauty.

On tap at DownTime Taps, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma has some dankness, piney hops, some NZ hop tang, and crisp crackery notes. Flavour is crisp, with lots of hop tang, bitter piney hops, a bit of murkiness (cryo? Krush), and a crisp crackery base. Bright, bitter and well-constructed. Excellent as always.
