Bright red, slightly hazy body with a frothy pink head. Super strong/sweet raspberry aroma with some sugars and malt noticeable. Super-sweet raspberry taste, a little sour, but overwhelmed with sweetness. Aftertaste still sweet and somewhat tart. An unbalanced lambic, more sweet than sour, but still a great beer! I had this beer on draught at Chez Antoinette in Washington, D.C. on 05-March-2004.

Bottled (Kasteelbier Bruin)
Dark ruby red. Brown creamy and steady medium head, lace. Aroma is malt, sweet berries and yeast. Very full-bodied: banana, blackberries, malt. Just a bit too sweet palate. Very warming but alcohol is well hidden in flavor.

An opaque brown beer with a small head. The aroma is sweet of caramel and yeast. The flavor is dominated by cinnamon and is rather sweet. A very interesting beer.

(Somewhat aged sample) Quite hazy orange; slim white rim. Powerful orang/orangezestnose, with both nutmeg and oxidation (not thàt old!). Spicey-bitter main taste. Different flavours as from rather exotic spices (nutmeg, horseradish, galanga root) to quite medicinal. Palate seems to give a bit of overyear hops and vanilla. Rather refreshing despite obviously well-bodied (and oxidation from the nose!); some alcohol evident. Aftertaste is still spicey-medicinal and hint at oxidation. Too much is too much: this medicinal thing is a bit too overpowering. At the same time, it might be the reason for the oxidation not to come forward in the taste. New version, on draught only. Same recipe as Brigand, but lagered on vessel for 1 yr Very surprising nose with a few seconds of Brett, even including horseblanket, saddlesoap), going into a flowery, honeyish aroma, reverting to lemon afterwards (8/10), Taste is much sweeter, and especially more alcoholic than the nose. There’s some perfumey malts, even almonds. Retronasal very neutral, just a little perfumey. (7/10).

Draught
Perfect golden colour with longlasting lacey white foam head. Aroma is strawberries and soap(!). Banana taste ending to yeast.

The aroma is sweet with notes of yeast and fruit. The color is orange and it has a small beige head. The flavor is sweet with the dominant note being corriander. The body is somewhat thin. A very average Belgium "light" beer.

The aroma is sour, like the aroma of a gueze should be. The color is nutbrown and it has a beige head. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel and hints of metal and sourness. This is definatly too sweet and too little sour for a queze.

The aroma is sweet and yeasty with notes of fruits. The color is orange and it has a beutiful head. The flavor is powerful with notes of cloves, oranges, and corriander. It has a great palate. A really nice night-cap.

Clear redbrown color, short head. Aroma is caramel malty, sour cherry and wine. Sour and sweet malty taste. This beer is more a combination of an amber ale and a flemish sour ale. Not too good IMO.
