24/10/2015 @home - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte Hazy blond with massive white hard. Nose is grains, citrus, spices. Taste is grains, yeast, light fruity, bitter, some sweetness, soapy mouthfeel.

33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. Thick white head. Murky blond pour. Corainder. A bit bland.

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy pale blonde with a massive white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, coriander, light herbal notes, bready notes and light caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Light medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

The brown (dubbel) version of Oscar Blond and the reason why ’Blond’ has been added to the latter’s name. I am happy to read that Cascade has been used in this - it seems more and more small Belgian brewers are applying American hop varieties in some of their beers nowadays. Medium thick, stable, moussy head retaining on the edges of the glass and leaving ’islands’ of very pale beige foam on top of a clear, rusty bronze coloured liquid with calm sparkling. Aroma of (too) strong banana-flavoured bubblegum, peaches in syrup, caramel candy, marmelade, raisins, liquorish, hay, hazelnuts, raw red cabbage, dried flowers, ginger powder, cloves, some forest floor and a fair amount of iron, but still feeling quite ’natural’ (haemoglobin), which cannot be said of the faint but still noticeable plastic-like odour (probably a vague whiff of DMTS). Sweet onset, lots of banana ester (isoamylacetate), yellow plum, gooseberry, medium carbo, smooth and lean, somewhat thin body, very caramelly maltiness, sweet with a light nutty touch and some residual candi sugar which persists till deep into the finish. There is a mild herbal and floral, earthy hop bitterishness in the end, but not enough to balance the sweetness and lacking in the citrusy aromas and bittering power I was hoping for. Last impression is caramel sweetness only lightly balanced with this floral hop bitterishness. Typical sweet Belgian dubbel: I don’t really mind the banana ester flavour as much as many other (mostly foreign) tasters do, but in this case it becomes really ’bubblegummy’ to the point of being obnoxious and it also has to be balanced with hops, which is not the case here. I guess the aim is still to cash in on the Leffe and Grimbergen merchandise, too bad the Cascade does not really get the opportunity to shine here. If this is the intended flavour profile, then what is the use of throwing in a (too) small amount of Cascade? Could do with more body as well. Close but no cigar - take Westmalle Dubbel instead, or Sint-Bernardus Pater, or Chimay Rouge, or... Enough said.

Hazy amber colour, white foam. Gusher! Light tart nose. Aroma of oranges, citrus and caramel. Sweet with light bitter finish. Ok.

Botrlz. Pours very muddy, brown, small white heqd.smell is sweet,malty. Taste is very yeasty, dark malts, silky mouthfeel but so damn high carbo. Mild bitterness. Ok beer , better than the view for sure.

Huge, very dense & fine yellowish head over fully hazy orangeish yellow beer. Mildly spiced nose, coriander, citruspeel, grains, bit sweet - as white chocolatemelt. Again coriander, perfumey and soapy in the mouth. Little sweetness left. Bit fake citrus, short spiced bitterness. Bit burning MF, quite slick (the oats?), very well-carbonated to fizzy, light body. Hmm. Witbier in my book.

Bottle at Belgiuminabox . Very to have found this one as it is yet another beer devoted to a metalband. Always cool to find these ones ! The fact that this time a Belgian brewery made it, and of all the options they took a good one, makes me even more enthousiastic. The consumption of this ale was of course paired with the fine music from these gentleman. Pours fuzzy yellow, almost like a wheatbeer, but with a huge white head. It fades to a more regular sized, steady head in a rather fast timespan. Smell is mostly yeasty, with much yeast-bitterness to it as well. Bit fruity even ( again, from the yeast ) . Taste is bitter. Intense on yeast, its bitter aspects up front , with a residential sweetness from the malts in the back. The totality is perfumed by a mixture of fine hoparoma as well of fruity yeastnotes. On the mouthfeel side, this beer is way overcarbonated. Apparently, this is the first version of this beer ( are there more to come ? ) so perhaps this shall be finetuned in the future batches. I like the -relatively- intense bitterness though. I still think a belgian ale is a weird choice for a rough death metal band ( you’d’expect imperial stout rather than this ) but I will let bad comments on that fact go, since I do like the beer. Horns up !

Pretty cloudy pale yellow to beige beer, big aery white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of apple sauce, cider, bit yeasty. MF: overload of carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit sweet, apple sauce, hay, cider, apple juice, little bitter. Aftertaste: spicy, yeast, bitter touch, some apples, coriander, some banana.
