Description

Sit back, relax and have a CEAUX-Brew!

Tap @ UBF ’15. Murky dark amber color (I think). Off white head with long retention. Aroma’s: smokey, with some malty sweetness. Retronasal: additionally some herbs & spices. Flavor: Moderate sweet, smokey. Medium bodied. Light spiciness, but not overly so. Finishes rather bitter. Nice!

Aroma of fruits, smoke, caramel, some peat, some pepper, hops. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a medium bitter finish. Wow, lots of different flavours to entertain the tastebuds. I loved it and I praise Ceaux for this succesful experiment.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy dark orange color, small white to off-white head. The aroma reminds me of the fingerpaint I used in primary school. Smoke and peat rule this aroma. Taste malts, hops indeed but they are dominated by peppery, peaty and smoky influences. After a while though the hops get more dominant so they provide some counterweight sort of speak to the other flavors. And pretty well balanced. A light pepper burn in the finish. I must admit, initially I thought this was rubbish, but, albeit not really my kind of thing, it is very well done.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown color, medium sized beige to light brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, a hint of sweetness, a hint of leaves, some iron. Taste malts, oatmeal, leaves, liquorice, light to moderately bitter. Decent body, average carbonation. Well, no real flaws in this beer, but the hint of leaves and iron I get really annoys me so I don’t really like it.

Bottle. Copper orange peer, almost no head. Aroma of smokey bacon and candi sugar. Taste is smoke at first, than boozy sweetness, some fruity hops and with a pepper burn in the finish. Interesting to feel it develop. This is a weird beer. You need to love extreme beers and be in the right mood to appreciate this. I think I am, but I wonder whether I still like it when I finish the bottle.

33cl Bottle from Sterk Avondverkoop. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of liquorice, some mocha, milk chocolate, roasted malts. Flavour is medium sweet, oats, milk chocolate, roast, hint of tar, lots of black liquorice, mocha bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied, a bit fizzy. It’s ok, but a bit too heavy on the liquorice.

Bottle @ Kapitaal at Ceaux Harvest release party. Served in plastic glass, as there was no proper glassware available. Most people drank beer maupie style. Slight gushing. Hazy to cloudy dark brown color, big frothy off-white head. Aroma of peppery yeast (belle saison), bit rye, bit cookie, some caramel, slight earthy hop. Soft bitterness, medium sweetness, but also a bit dry and bubbly of the carbonation. Soft alcohol burn. Bit too high on carbonation, but the brewer was aware of that. Bit belgian strong ale like.
