Sample from cask at the 12th annual Smokehouse Mini Real Ale Fest on 05/16/15: Murky reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, caramel and oak. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, citrus, oak and hops. The finish is oaky and malty with an earthy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Part of my discounted flight.
Sample glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to orange color with no head nor lacing. No worries, it is a sample glass.
The smell had a smooth semi - smoked maltiness running into a light cocoa and light coffee.
The taste was mainly the same balanced underneath and glossing into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat controlled.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good Scottish ale as ratebeer suggests. I would have it again.

Part of the discounted flight I had.
Sample glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to medium colored orange/brown color with a light carbonation to be seen rising. No head, but I’m not worried since it was a sample glass.
The smell definitely had the characteristics of an ESB, slightly malty, semi-\"soapy\" but a good \"soapy.\"
The taste was mainly malty sweet with an established semi - wet displaced aftertaste leading to a semi-wet finish. It does add a light woodiness to it as warmed.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style and for me, delicately smooth.
Overall, barrel aged ESB, yup these guys did it right. If I actually lived in the Columbus area, I’d be taking home a growler of this as much as I could.

On tap as part of a discounted flight.
Sample glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with slim faint yellow hues arranging themselves in and out on the body. Light carbonation was somewhat seen rising.
The smell had the blood orange up front and didn’t really allow much else there.
The taste was mainly orange fruity sweet. Strong orange aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation comes across pretty strong.
Overall, not a hefeweizen, no qualities of a true one exists in this beer. However, being that the blood orange does come across as pure and authentic, I’m slightly at a loss for how to put my numbers on this one. Leaves me scratching my head a bit because I liked it for what it is.

Part of the discount flight I got.
Sample glass.
The appearance was a pale orange color with no head and no lacing.
The smell had a mostly sweet maltiness running about. No soapiness came in as I was slightly expecting it.
The taste was mainly malty sweet with an ample amount of a sweet aftertaste that bled into a semi - wet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation seemed to somewhat restrained but still acceptable.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good English pale ale I would have again.

I had this on tap at the brewpub.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a glossy orange to ruddy red. A bar pour’s kind of head dissipated within about a quick twenty seconds.
The smell had a sweet German malt, fairly authentic.
The taste took the German malt to sweeten and roll adequately into the aftertaste and leave a nice wet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good for the style and for me.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good German pilsener, pass the bratwurst!
