Description
We started out in 1996 as a small group of San Diego home brewers who simply wanted to make a better beer. In our exploration, we became obsessed with ingredients—tinkering, testing and tasting to find the perfect balance of taste and aroma. That adventurous spirit leads to award-winning beers in classic and unique styles while challenging our own tastes and expanding yours. We’re proud of our San Diego hometown, our employees, our beers, and our fans. We think of our employees as family, and you, our fans, as extended family. You’ll see us use #BPPROUD as a badge of pride and a way to further connect with our beer loving community.

Bottle from Beergium. Aroma is bready wheat, peppery yeast, citrus, hay, lemon, with soft spicy notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter. Body is light to medium. Decent, but fairly ordinary Witbier.

Bottle from Beergium. Always a treat opening a Ballast Point bottle whilst enjoying the refined label art. Roasty aroma with dark malt, coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, and a hint of hops. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a medium roasty hoppy bitter finish. Body is medium. Great Stout, lots of roasty coffee chocolate flavours with a potent bittersweet flavour. Solid!

Bottle from a gas station near Reno, Nevada. Aroma is juicy hops, intense tropical fruits, grapefruit, soft biscuity malt, citrus, orange, some pine resin. Flavour is light to moderate sweet with a firm bitter finish. Body is medium. Amazingly balanced hoppy fruits basket, one of the finest if not the finest well-rounded example of the style I’ve enjoyed.

Bottle from a supermarket in California. Aroma is strong orange creamsickle with orange zest, tangerine, and creamy vanilla. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Their goal to create the beer equivalent of an orange creamsickle was definitely attained, very fruity and creamy. I found it interesting but a bit much overall, a novelty beer.

Can from Sterk Amsterdam. Aroma is fruity hops, tropical fruits, orange, pine, biscuity pale malt, grapefruit, hint of caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium, very clever for a 3.8%. Sessionable but doesn't compromise in any way.

Can from Sterk Amsterdam. Aroma is fruity hops with lots of (artificial) mango, tropical fruits, zesty citrus, mango candy, and fruit peel. Flavour is candy-like sweetness with a firm hop 'n fruit peel bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Like Grapefruit Sculpin, too candied and artificial for my taste.

Can from Joe's Wine and Liquor, Memphis. Fruity hops with lots of grapefruit, tropical, citrus, orange, pine, tangerine, malt, resin, touh of caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Can't go wrong with unfiltered Sculpin, though it's a little less commanding than the base West Coast classic. Still, the relatively low ratings are perplexing.

Bottle from Joe's Wine and Liquor, Memphis. Fruity juicy aroma with lots of tropical fruits, grapefruit, orange, mango, passion fruit, and a soft malty & piney backbone. Flavour is mildly sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Another wonderful Sculpin variety. *** Re-rate, as Ballast Point Hazy Sculpin. Nicely tropical but piney as well, with grapefruit, mango, orange, pale malt. Bittersweetish.

Can from Joe's Wine and Liquor, Memphis. Piney and fruity hops with citrus, sweetish orange, pine resin, tropical fruits, grapefruit, malt, some caramel, and a light floral touch. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is above medium. Wonderful IIPA from Ballast, the way I like it: In your face resinous and tropical fruits with a firm bittersweet flavour. True San Diego quality.
