Founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker, the Scottish brewery has grown steadily to become renowned for their award winning beers. Head brewer, Stuart Cail, joined Harviestoun in 1995. Over the years the brewery has found new and innovative ways to create truly unique beers from their whisky cask aged Old Engine Oil to Bitter and Twisted, aged in Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

Hoppy aroma, lemony and herbal. Some hint at skunking, weird because its a brown bottle, but it may not have been lightstruck but a hop-related herbal note. Golden color, small head faded to nil. Fresh hops flavors are spicy, with a somewhat oregano-like herbal quality as well. Malts not special. Clean, surprisingly. Light palate. Strong hop finish. I can only imagine the cask version.

Cask @ Charlies
Hazy amber, tanned creamy head. Neutral aroma, luckily the flavor is more exiting. Citric and grassy hops. Dry herbal hoppy finish Light to medium body, sparkly mouthfeel. Nice.

Pour is of course black like oil. Aroma is a chocolate with a nice roasted malty backbone. Flavor is a nice mix of cocoa and toffee. Not quite flavorful enough to knock you off your chair but it has its qualities to make this one to look for.

Cask conditioned at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. Golden / amber colour, low head. Moderate malty aroma with fruity hops. A moderate but nice and crisp hoppiness in the flavour, well balanced with the malts. Easy drinking. A nice little beer this one!

Casked @Charlie’s Pub
Hazy copper brown, small head. Good grassy-hoppy nose. Medium-bodied. Woody, bitter, balanced hops with some malty background. Some earthiness from cask.

Cask at County Hotel, JDW Ashford. If only all lager was like this. A worthy beer to be my 300th. Golden beer with citrus and tropical fruit aromas, carbonated in the mouth and a bit sherberty but it leads to a nice dry finish with nettle hop. Excellent beer

Cask. Nice hoppy, citrusy aroma, smells dry-hopped. Yellow colour, small creamy head. Good hoppy bitterness. It never occurred to me that this is not an ale.

(Bottle 50 cl) Fully golden and clear, nice, creamy head that leaves a pretty lacework. Very fresh, citrusy nose. Rather light body with the aroma hops in full dominance and - again - with the citrus being most pronounced (and it’s no lie when the back label mentions grape fruit flavours. Pronounced bitterness but never too much. A true beer with character. 180705 and 240603

Cask. Malty flavour, I seem to detect a little smokiness also. Copper colour, looks flat. Bubbly white head. Uncompromising bitterness. Nice aromatic hoppiness, but gone very quickly. Long bitterness, a little harsh.

Cask at Ship and Mitre, Liverpool Had just been to the Baltic Fleet home of the Wapping brewery and this beer was everything they were trying to be and just failing slightly. This is golden, clear, fresh, refreshing with lots of citrus flavours and acids and hops on the end. Good in mouth with long lasting finish of grapefruit
