Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.
With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.
Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.
The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.
We want to meet the people.

On tap at Bryggerifestivalen. It's a clear deep red mead with a minimalistic off-white head. The aroma has honey and red berries dominating, with a spiced, flowery hint in the back. It's semi-sweet on the palate, flat and a bit dead, with a strange berry-like sourness I didn't think much of. Still, the nice honey and red berries known from the aroma is present, lifting the experience to a decent level. Medium length finish. Sure noe my favorite from Mjøderiet. 240801

On tap at Bryggerifestivalen. It's a golden colored, lightly unclear mead with a small off-white head. The aroma has ginger, flowers, lemon and honey. Guess the lemon I noticed was lime, but couldn't distinct it. It has a sharp ginger flavor, nicely warming in a ginger way, but a bit too intense I think. Flowers, honey and lemon. Can't really say I detected any chili, except I guess some of the ginger heat was chili heat. Medium body, fresh and lightly warming, and not too sweet. A nice one, but a bit too heavy on the ginger for me. 240801

On tap at Bryggerifestivalen. It's a lightly foggy one, red, with some off-white bubbles trying to form a head. Citrusy aroma with red berries, elderflower and honey. It's full-bodied and not too sweet on the palate, but with a decent amount of honey flavor still. Red berries, a spiced, chili-like touch, lemon and elderflower. Lasting finish where the honey is a bit more evident. Dangerously easy drinkable this one. 240801

Draught at Bryggerifestivalen 2024. Bubbles on the surface of purple-golden body, hazy, scattered lacing. Inviting aromas of berries and mead. Mouthfilling taste with honeyed berries, blackcurrant and blueberries among others. Smooth and lingering ending, mid-dry and rather sweet. Full bodied. Nice sipper that gets a tad too sweet in the long run. (Trondheim, 02.08.2024).

Draught at Bryggerifestivalen 2024, kindly shared by yngwie. Naked surface, scattered lacing, deep reddish body. Red berries on the nose, rather sweet. Honeyed black and red berries to the taste character. Ends sweet and dry with mix of berries. A bit too sweet, but okay in smaller amounts.(Trondheim, 01.08.2024).
