Description
About Mjøderiet:

Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.

With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.

Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.

The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.

We want to meet the people.

21.12.2016, 0,25l bottle shared with Palme @ Apollon:
Small bubbly mediumlasting head, clean golden color (more amber hazy at the bottom of the bottle). Aroma is slightly sweet spiced, like a mix of Cointreau and aquavit with spices; orange liquor, minerals, cloves, cardamom, grass, honey, cinnamon, pine needles, flowers, perfume. Taste is sweet spiced, loaded with fresh cinnamon bark, minerals, honey, raisins, cardamom, orange liquor, cloves, alcohol. Light (almost a little watery) mouthfeel with a nice warming boozy touch. Nice, would be perfect with dessert on Christmas eve, or as a dessert on its own.

0.25l bottle from #2, shared with Inbreak @Apollon. This one pours more or less a clear deeper golden colored body. Perhaps a little hint of something blurry and on the top a small bubbly quickly sidesticking off-white top. Like the upspiced nose. Loaded with gingerbread, dried orange peel and nutmeg, traces of cinnamon in the back. A little bit of allspice also here. Really mood setting this and nice to smell at this cookie dough inspired aroma. Tastes quite nice also. Much more cinnamon in the taste. Cinnamon and dried orange peel. Surprisingly light in the mouth for a twelve percenter and there's not much bubbles here. Gingerbread and mild allspice. Could definitely see myself having this again - perhaps as a after Christmas dinner sipper. Really nice! 21.12.2016

Small bubbly mediumlasting head, light amber slightly hazy color. Aroma is slightly sweet mineraly with a slightly sake-like boozy touch, mineraly honey, paper, booze, flowers, grain, grass, caramel, bark. Taste is slightly dry mineraly with much of the same sake-like boozyness, mineraly honey, booze, paper, flowers, caramel, hay, grass. Even though there is some level of boozyness in the mouthfeel, the mouthfeel still feels kind of watery. Fair enough.

0.25l bottle from #1 shared with Inbreak @ Apollon. It looks like a mead, yeah. From the bottle this pours a darker golden, slightly blurry body with bubbly quickly gone little filmy top. On the nose it's really intense honey and caramel sweet. Not cloying or anything, and I find clear tones of both vanilla and some clear alcohol, a little leather and it actually reminds me a little if cold sake. Not bad, quite different. Tastes good. Warming but nowhere boozy. It's thick and oily in the mouth and there's not really any bubbles here. There's tones of coconut/honey biscuits, a little hay also and the cold sake is still present. Not bad this tasting this honey they have used. Yeah this is a nice mighty one, but still not over the top. Good sipper - well masked ABV. 21.12.2016

14.12.2016, tap @ Apollon:
No head. Nice reddish color. Aroma is fresh sour-ish fruity, sour raspberry candy, grass, raspberry syrup, hay, minerals, sorrel, hints of very mild vinegar and honey. Taste is slightly fresh fruity, raspberry candypop, minerals, hay, raspberry syrup, grass, alcohol, sugar, heather, berry skin, hints of honey. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and sour-ish grassy mouthfeel. Nice enough. Easy drinking, but I can’t help wanting double of everything...

Small slightly bubbly shortlasting head, nice hazy reddish color. Aroma is slightly sweet fruity, honey, sour grass, minerals, berry skin, sweet blueberry juice, red berries. Taste is slightly sweet fruity, honey, grass, sweet blueberry juice, minerals, crowberries, heather. Litght and fruity mouthfeel. Nice enough, very easy drinking.

2-4-6-3-7=2,2>br> Nice pink fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head, hazy deep reddish color. Aroma is strange sour-ish, sulfur, minerals, silo concentrate, rotten fruits, unripe berries, sorrel, hints of honey far back. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish grassy, wet hay, minerals, sorrel, sour dark berries, grass, heather, watery blueberry juice, berry skin, paper, hints of honey far back. Slightly watery sour-ish grassy mouthfeel. Even though it’s not supposed to be like this, it’s a solid meh!

16.12.2016, 0,33l bottle (infected first batch) @ home:
Not all, but most of the sulfur, is gone. Apart from that, it’s pretty much the same as the first time, with the same strange sourness in the aroma. Just doesn’t work for me. (Maybe with a clip on my nose...)
