About Mjøderiet:
Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.
With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.
Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.
The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.
We want to meet the people.

On tap at Haand Festival. An orange colored mead, lightly unclear. Very foresty aroma, quite a lot of gale, some berry hints and a little honey. The flavor too is low on the honey, but the berries are more like crowberries than blueberries or blackberries, even though there's something like that as well. Towards the finish it feels more spiced, guess it's some juniper berries, and the gale is there as well. Full to medium body. Perhaps a bit too much forest going on here, but it's a nice mead anyway. 170526

Pours hazy deep red with a few pink bubbles. Aroma has notes of sweet and sour cherries, almonds and honey. Taste is medium sweet with a long cherry, mild honey and almond nutty finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. Very nice cherry flavor and very easy to drink

What an astonishing experience. I never thought mead could be as refreshing and nice as this.
Lovely hazed yellow color. Lots of passion fruit in the aroma. Nice mellow honey touch when the temperature got right. A little bit of a gusher at first. A little bit high carbonation level. But that worked really nice with this one. Made it refreshing and sparkling. Nice balanced sweetness together with a fine mild acidity made it very pleasant to drink. Lovely balanced honey and passion fruit flavor. Mild refreshing citric also. My goodness Mjøderiet rocks!

Bottle from Gulating Brennåsen. Hazy yellow golden body with very lively carbonation and a big white head that fades quite fast. I was warned that this may be a gusher so I opened this carefully over the sink from a cold bottle, lost only a few drops. Very fruity and refreshing aroma, citric fruit, passion fruit and oranges with the honey gently in the background. The flavor is like expected from the aroma, dominated by the fruit. Of course passion fruit, but it felt a lot like oranges as well. This might have something to do with the nice fruity acidity that made a fine contrast to the sweetness and managed this to be more refreshing that sticky even if it’s a rather sweet one. The honey is just enough present for this drink I think, more would probably give a sweeter and less refreshing impression and sweet mead needs some more alcohol in my opinion. Fine, balancing light body and a pleasant aftertaste in the same direction. Very nice indeed and I’m glad I was warned about the gushing in advance.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange, with a few small bubbles. Aroma is almost like a nice, sweet barley wine, with heather and some hot alcohol notes, as well as honey with herbs and floral notes, and foresty notes with juniper. Medium to full body, with no carbonation. Flavour is sweet honey, with some heathery herbal notes and light forest in the back.
