Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.
With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.
Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.
The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.
We want to meet the people.

bottle courtesy of Timo. Sparkling golden pour. Passion fruit nose with light bees wax & minerals. Sweet, tiny sour, fruity & tiny floral. Round, tiny tart & sparkling mouthfeel. Bit too soda-like for my taste. Wouldn't mind more honey character too without increasing sweetness. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bringebær on 24 May 2017 at 18:20 - Score: 7. Bottle, at Haand Festival. A hazy to unclear red mead with a light orange tint. Some bubbles on top. The aroma don't have much honey, but some are present. Mostly it's raspberry, with a generic berry touch, vanilla and a hint of coconut. It's sweet and honeyish on the palate, full-bodied and smoothly carbonated. Not much carbonation that is, but it's quite oily so it doesn't need much to feel smooth. Raspberry, some vanilla and coconut in the flavor. There's supposed to be some chili too in here, but that's not detected neither in aroma or in flavor. Lasting alcohol-warming finish with a good raspberry flavor. I sure wouldn't mind having this for my Christmas Eve dessert. 170526

On tap at Haand Festival. An orange colored mead, lightly unclear. Very foresty aroma, quite a lot of gale, some berry hints and a little honey. The flavor too is low on the honey, but the berries are more like crowberries than blueberries or blackberries, even though there's something like that as well. Towards the finish it feels more spiced, guess it's some juniper berries, and the gale is there as well. Full to medium body. Perhaps a bit too much forest going on here, but it's a nice mead anyway. 170526
