Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

From a 330ml bottle (2013 vintage, abv 11.3%) on 14/8/2017. Pours a deep amber with no head. Has a lovely nose featuring caramel, butterscotch, toffee, fruit cake. The flavour is complex and intense, featuring all of the aforementioned, along with masses of raw sugar and golden syrup, with some nuttiness in the mix. The texture is syrupy and my bottle seemed under-carbed. I’m a little torn with this one, as it’s flawed, yet quite magnificent in some respects. Defintely worth a try if you into bold dessert beers.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with deep ruby glimmer and average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, sulphureous to beige head. Roasty dark malty, fruity hoppy and minimally herbal aroma, notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, pumpernickel, a touch of lovage, fruity hints of dark berries, bramble, juniper berry. Taste is slightly sweet, chocolately dark malty and fruity, notes of dark chococlate, a minimally ashy touch, hints of plum, bramble, morello cherry.

Bottle @ home shared with Joes. Lightly hazy orange color, average to medium sized white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is lightly malts, very nicely hoppy, lightly resinous and grapefruit hoppiness. Taste malts, nicely hoppy, resinous, grapefruit, hoppy bitter. Nice! Medium body and carbonation. Nice one!
