Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with ruby glimmer and average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Sweet-ish, chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of toffee, dark caramel, dark chococlate, a touch of malt lozenge, some roast. Taste is slightly bitter, roasty dark malty, chocolately, some coffee, dark chocolate, a touch of burnt caramel. Rich and intense, especially for relatively light 4.9% abv; the light body is nevertheless perceivable, since all flavours seem to float like an aerostat, no "road contact" somehow.

Thankfully not an amber ale, but a red IPA. Lot of complexity here. I can detect about 10 dif. things. Renaissance has so many good IPAs!

Thin bubbly beige head stayed on a reddish brown still body. Minimal malty aroma. Thick & cloying. Minimal carbonation. Malty tastes with dark berries, caramel & faintly hoppy on the aft. Very similar to a standard English IPA.
