Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Pours light amber, bitt of foam. Aroma is softly hoppy, malt base is clear in the background, providing also some sweetness. Taste is also mildly hoppy, not really a hop bomb but has still some tingle going on. Malt caramel is abundant, and finish has some more dry hop bitterness lingering for a while. Better than I expected from a cheap COSTCO beer actually.

Very hazy dark amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy and has a minerally crisp bite. Tangy thin malts, touches of cream and caramel. Ripe fruits. A little hop spice and floral bitterness. Light finish. Wow! What a disappointment. Where are the big juicy NZ hops? Why is this beer so dark? Lame.

Pint at Brewer’s Co-operative. Funky fruity notes stand out against the dark background. Very clean with an almost sour finish.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Offie and Toffee. Pours light,y hazy orange with a frothy topping. The nose has crackers malts, faded pine, ripe citrus, a little marmalade. Medium sweet flavor with strong bready and crackers malts, stewed citrus fruits, piney bitterness, berries, a little grass. Medium to full bodied, with fine to average carbonation. Finishes lightly resinous, subtly warming, with more lightly aged pine, citrus, melon, tangerine, oily pine. This one feels a bit faded overall, although there are still some juicy elements here.
