Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Keg at Andrew Usher’s. Hazy amber body with no head. Steady carbonation. Very faint lacing. Aroma of red apple, oak and caramel. Flavour of bitter orange orange and a hint of sour lemon on the finish. Medium body with a fizzy, frothy mouthfeel. A complex, distinctive beer, although I don’t think it’s drinkable enough for me to order another.

Bottle from Bridgend Service Station. Clear amber body with a medium off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of copper, dry leaves, caramel and blood orange. Flavour of gooseberry, minerals and rust. Thin to medium body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Light fizz. Disappointing - not the flavours I was hoping for from a New Zealand IPA.

Clear red - amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy with reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, light caramel. Ripe orange, light marmalade. Little hop skunk. Fresher orange peel. Smooth finish reveals some malt cream. Rich and pretty drinkable, could have more hop kick.

Taster from growler station in Glengarry Wines Victoria Park. Aroma is fairly mild, with some caramel, biscuit and a little bitterness. Flavour is huge though, and really sweet. Massive amounts of toffee, honey and syrupy melon. Really nice, though not at all balanced. I guess with a name like "Boom!" they’re probably not too bothered about that.

Nice clear golden, foam is nice but disappears quickly. Aroma is soft, malt biscuits and some sour notes. Herbal hops. Taste reveals quite hopped up pilsner, feels more like a hoppy pale ale actually. Drinks easy and is quite refreshing.

Big offwhite head. Clear amber body. Sugary tropical fruit aroma with spicy gooseberry notes. Sweetish raisiny apricot taste with wooden spicy notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish resiny caramelly aftertaste with rye bread and fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, full of flavour, and hides the alcohol well. (0.33l bottle, from ... uh ... not sure.)
