Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Offie & Toffee. Pours totally clear gold, lightly effervescent, with a frothy, white head. The aroma has pale biscuit, faintly aged pine, a little cracker, rindy citrus, orange, white grape, golden raisin. Light-medium sweet flavour with further crackery malts, assertive piney bitterness, rindy citrus, orange. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, with more piney notes, biscuits, dry bread, bitter hay, some grass, orange rind, pithy grapefruit, hints of white grape. Good stuff overall. A little fresher and I’ll bit this would be even better.

330ml bottle. Moderately cloudy, orangey golden colour with small to average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney, resinous & citrusy hoppy and caramel malty aroma, notes of pineapple, passionfruit, hints of lime and lemon, sweaty resinous groundwork. Taste is crisp citrusy and bitter hoppy, notes of lemon, lemon drops, some lime, caramel malty backbone keeps the threateningly lurking hop bitterness at bay, thereby delivering almond-like malty interludes, but basically providing a basis for the display of fresh lemon flavours of all shades. Okay! The hops do the talking - but finally this is an hoppy ’Boom!" with a staggering malty echo.

Small sample from bottle at ASKO-messe. Golden colour, white head. Very moderate aroma of fruity hops. The hops are more distinct in the flavour, fruity notes first, ends in a sharpish, very bitter and medicinal aftertaste.

330ml bottle into schooner. Mad gusher! Like champagne at a GP. Anyway...looks like burnt caramel sauce with greatly diminished film of foam left. Slight whiff of hops. Full-bodied with a little hoppy zing. Finish is clean with background malt, bitter lemon and aspirin notes. Nice quaffer, solid.

Bright clear amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is thin with reasonable fine carbonation. Thin malts, a little unsweet caramel and a trace of rye tang. Light marmalade hops with a little pine. Light semi dry finish. Clean and light but ultimately - somewhat dull.
