Bottle from Brewer's Haven, XXIII release. Nearly black pour with a nice tan head. Delectable aroma is sweet with chocolate and barrel notes, light roast. Tastes sweet with a light roast and modest barrel notes. About midway through I can pick up a little rye in the finish. Solid depth and layers of flavor, this is a winner.

12oz bottle. 2021 version. 11.2% ABV. Really delicious Old Ale. Huge malt body, but minimal alcohol heat. Smooth and sweet, not really much of a hop tone to mention. Filtered, clean. Really well executed beer.

First time I had this was late 1998 at the brewery. Now I found a "vintage" bottle in the sales bin at Sterk. Pours like motor oil, black, with a steady light brown head, good retention. Aroma's of hard roasted malts, umami, some red fruit, hops. Retronasal there's good roast, bitterness, ground coffee, some red fruit. Flavour is rather bitter, roasted, with just a hint of sweet. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Long finish with a ton of roast and good bitterness. A classic impy.

Bottle shared in Hazlemere - picked up in California during RB Best. Pours clear copper-brown with a modest, off-white foam head. Medium to big sweet flavour, hearty and malty, ripening dark fruits, plum, cherry, figs, dates, very mild oxidation, toast, brown sugar, toffee. Full bodied, lightly oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, further rich toasted malts, brown sugar, dark fruits. Nice depth. Delicious.

Bottle at the 'Mere, Happy New Years (Tipples had) Tastang, thanks to LKS 21/01/22. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is fruit rinds, spice, brown bread, toffee, dark malts. Taste comprises fruit cake, bourbon, spice, chocolate, mo;asses. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid.
