Sampled from bottle thanks to Martinus. Clear copper to amber, small beige head. Smell malts, a bit sweet. Taste malts, sweetness, a bit fruity. Soft mouthfeel, low to medium body.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a medium white head. A sweet malty caramel nose. A dry earthy flavor with caramel and biscuit. Really like an amber ale. Pretty good.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a slightly hazy amber color with a medium beige head that recedes slowly to a film. The aroma is caramel malt and hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, yeast and mild hops. The finish is fruity with a short malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, a bit of smoke. Thin smoky flavor at first, followed up with light molasses, cocoa, roast, at times a bit of red grape. Just generally very thin.

Bottle. Body is a thinning dark brown with a little bit of head. Aromas of chocolate and oatmeal. Flavor is more of the same... Not bad, but not very incredibly inspiring either. Very solid, but not very unique.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal, a touch of light chocolate, caramel, toffee and a touch of vanilla. Medium-bodied; Assertive chocolate flavours in the initial taste with a dose of vanilla and caster sugar with a little earthy malt notes, some light cream and lactic flavours and a dry oakyness on the finish. Aftertaste shows more chocolate than anything else and a little bit of roasted malt pungency. Overall, a nice sweet stout that shows a moderate level of complexity and a good reminder of the Sanders chocolate fudge that goes atop some good Michigan Ice Cream. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 28-April-2011 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-September-2011.

12 oz bottle at the SpringHill Suites near the Detroit airport. Pour is a clear copper, slight ruby with a one inch light tan head that is lasting. Aroma is lightly sweet malt, with a touch of grass, perhaps a bit of herbal underneath the grass, though its faint. Taste is the malt, with sweet toasted biscuit, then gets a little unclean in the finish. Palate is light bodied, finishes with a mild grass that is touch off. Overall, fair, but certainly drinkable.

Bottle. Deep nearly opaque garnet red-brown body, thick tight light brown head. Woody nose with roasted malts, dark chocolate, and hints of butterscotch; chalky. Dry body with woody acidity, featuring dark chocolate and light licorice notes, with a biting finish. Not very good.
