(Bottle 25 cl) Beautiful, hazy, pale golden ale with an incredibly dense and frothy head. Fresh, slightly fruity nose - I detect some coriander. Also coriander in the flavour combined with yeast and sweet malt. Pronounced dryness rather than bitterness. A lovely beer. 270499

(Bottle 25 cl) Pretty much everything is unusual about this beer: the Scottish name, the small, clear glass bottle and the smoked malts. Incredibly pretty (whisky)golden colour with a small, white head. Medium body, smooth malty character with an oddly dry character. Unusual palate when this hits the buds. oaky, smoked notes. 100399

Hazy light amber color. Spicy aroma (coriander), hint of citrus fruits. Quite weak body, dry; a bit too bitter (hop extracts?) and no malt remaining in the mouth. Boring.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pale pink colour - like strawberry champagne - and a small white head. Strong strawberry aromas - enough to fill the whole room - and the aromas are equally strong. Actually you may very well suspect the flavours to be artificially made - although there’s no mentioning of such on the label. As a soft drink this works fine, as a beer...? Well... 210299

(Bottle 25 cl) Hmm, label doesn’t say Huyghe anywhere, only Biertoren. But since the latter closed in 1993 and this bottle was bought in 1998 I reckon it’s the Huyghe version. I believe it was a blending beer originally (Speciale & Lambic?) but don’t know if that’s still the case. Dark, reddish brown - not much head, or carbonation for that matter. Very quenching acidity but a lot less sharp and metallic than other sour ales. Vinous and very light-bodied with some roasted notes from the malt. Very interesting. 150298
