Keg @ Ludlow Brewery after a ride at Mortimer Forest nearby searching out new trails. Misty gold appearance, small white head. Light tropical nose, taste seems mildly sweet, soft tropical hints, oily palate. Decent overall, but comes across a little like a hoppy golden ale rather than a crisp cutting pale ale / IPA.

A beautifully clear straw colour, with a bubbly white head, and a touch of sweet malt, hay and citrus on the nose. The mouthfeel is crisp and fresh, there’s an initial almost spicy hop bitterness with a sweetish bread flavour coming through, some floral notes with citrus and honey there too, before a dry and slightly bitter finish

Cask pint @ Ludlow Brewery after a 45 mile ride through South Shropshire. Pitch black, off-white head. Aroma is roasty dark malts with some berry notes. Taste suggests this is Ludlow Black Knight with blackcurrant syrup added. Nice roasted malt character with some modest dark berry notes, certainly not at the fore as imagined. Ok one-off.

Can from the brewery. Appearance - golden amber, decent head. Nose - cake mixture and dried orange peel. Taste - dried orange and general cakiness again. Palate - sweet malt, dry, balanced finish. Light to medium bodied. Overall - nice. Quite west coast in my opinion.

Can from Ludlow Food Centre. Appearance - pale golden with a thin snow white head. Nose - lemon, pink grapefruit and pine. Taste - pine and lemon again. Light pot pourri in fact. Palate -light bodied, good length. Dry, fairly balanced finish. Overall - good.

Bottle from the Ludlow Food Centre. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Off white to tan head. Nose - roast aroma and dark chocolate. Taste - sweet malts, dark chocolate and roast flavours again. Palate - close to medium bodied. Creamy, then roasty finish. Overall - decent.

On cask at The Clive Arms. As Ludlow Red Dawn so assumed same beer. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Lovely tan head. Nose - red and orange fruit. Brown bread and cake. Taste - general cakiness with dried orange and raisins. Plums and toffee too. Palate - creamy and light to medium bodied. Lovely gentle taper. Overall - lovely stuff.

330ml can from Ludlow Brewery. Pours golden yellow, lightly misty, frothy white head. Exceedingly good kolsch, nice and fresh tasting, really captures the sweetness well though does creep perilously close to dortmunder-level sweet. Subtle diacetyl but pretty good overall.

330ml can from Ludlow Brewery. Clear amber appearance, small off-white head. Light grapefruit, lemon. Taste continues, gently hoppy with an amber malt backbone. Fleeting berry hints, good dry bitterness on the close. Pleasant pre-craft style pale overall.

Monthly Beer Share (five of us); Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. 27th July 2020. Cheers Mark for bringing two 33cl cans of this to the tasting. Amber body, white head with good lacing. Malty front with a piney hop undertone.
