I dont know, is it just me or is this beer just a freaking mess. Dont get me wrong i like Allagash and I wanted to like this but it hasnt worked out. I first had this when it hit selves in NYC and just had it again tonight at the Collins bar. Its like there really arent any good Scotch aspects, weak Belgian aspects and its over hopped for what its trying to do. The nose comes off hoppy, there really is no strony maltiness or roastiness, and there is a slight belgian sweetness that really seems to be wasted. I thought it needs time but I dont seem what aspects could improve. You want to try a good Belgian Scotch ale look for Glazen Toren Canaster.

Pours a light amber into a trappist glass. Sour barnyard and rose aromas. Fizzy, dry and crisp with a fruity wine (white/red/rose) flavor. Tart, quick wild yeast finish.

A hazy orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy - though I can’t name any individual spices. The flavor is also very spicy and it reminds me a lot of a Belgian Ale, but it also has notes of berries and fruit, and of the spices I pick out cloves, and somewhere there’s just a touch of brettanomyces. The end has a light woody note combined with bourbon. This beer really confuses me - so much is going on at the same time.

Hazy white body with a small creamy white head. Heavily spiced aroma with some orange peel. Sweet spice flavor, some orange peel, a hint of lemon, nd a gentle wheat background.

Corked 750 mL bottle, Batch 28 according to label. Pours a straw color (second glass pours much cloudier than the first) with a pretty substantial head. Aroma is unique... pear, coriander, maybe some subdued cloves, a little soap and plenty of dough. Head is substantial... two or three fingers in a pint glass. Flavor is very spicey... one of the most heavily spiced beers I’ve tried. I’m picking up cloves and coriander leading the charge as the initial surge of smooth wheat sweetness subsides. A peppery note brings the whole thing to a close. Lemon is also present as this beer transitions away from what I expected in a wit to that spiciness that I didn’t see coming.

Pour is a redish brown with a white head. Aroma is citrus with some sugar with a dash of dark fruit. Flavor is a heaping dose of brown sugar with a roasted nut quality. Citrus and strong malts also show up in the flavor. Very tasty! Goes down a bit sweet but no alcohol burn is a good thing. Very tasty brew and a excellent rep of the style.

December 2004 bottling. Hazy orange body, thin-medium off-white head. Oaky aroma with caramel, white grape, tropical fruits, and biting alcohol. Fruity, peachy body, with coconut and bourbon, pineapple, white grape, and caramel, complex with good oak character. Alcohol not too hot. Some butterscotch. Rich, thick body but not syrupy. Very nice beer- complex and not overpowering.
