Bottle courtesy of Slothez. Poured deep golden amber, decent white head. Sweet hoppy citrus aroma. Crisp, clean, sweet bready flavour. Malt and hops perfectly balanced. Really very good. Top notch label too !!

Sludgey, big oxidized citrus hop nose with chewy caramel. Why do all these Terrapins smell old as dirt? Has pineappley sweet esters with rich piney, earthy hops and a full-scale chewy maltiness. I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish here.

Bottle at home ...Deep solid black ... no head ... very nice caramel toffee nose ... quite sweet but an odd sweetness ... lots of roast coffee malts no real bitterness ... little syrupy ... nice mellow hop character. Bottle at home... Dark black.. Thick tan head... Soft sweet chocolate coffee roast malts nose... Dark chocolate roast.. Massive chocolate roast.. Big coffee.. Nice4.1

Bottle. 2007. Rich toffee colored beer with a light tan head. Caramel, dark fruit, and citrus aroma. Citrus, pine flavor with lots of caramel. Not very IIPA like - the impreial red is more like it. Medium bodied. Lingering caramel, grapefruit/lemon, and some summer fruit.

Bottle. 2007. Amber beer with a light tan head. Big caramel aroma with a bit of grass. Earthy, spicy, grassy hops with a big caramel backing. Nice cleansing bitterness. Medium bodied. Lingering caramel, grass, earth.

Bottle at home with Tom AND Royce ... lots of pine notes ... very hoppy ... american hop quite well balanced. Am i drunk oh yes i am . :-) )and i blame tom:-) good balance though and great at what it is. some malt but typical american hop... and a big Shout out to my 4 year old Christopeher for recogniisng the 2007 on the label and demonstarting the difference with a 2006 Bourbon country... i knew he knew 1-10 but not those in the 2000’s

12 oz. bottle courtesy of tjthresh. 2006 Monster Beer Tour as listed on label. Initial pour was ALL foam, filled the entire glass with a coca cola head. Next pour was done fair more carefully, this time, was a still a huge head, big foamy and bubbly deep tan with an all black body. Visible carbonation is bubbling out of this one for several minutes until the head settled. Aroma of dusty earthiness, roasted malt, and some roast coffee. The coffee was actually pretty muted and smelled more of old coffee in the can than fresh brewed. Taste is much more of the coffee, somehow fresher tasting than smelling, layered on top of a pretty thin stout body. The carbonation was very much still involved in the taste as well, making this a bit disarming. The taste also has some sweetness (cocoa / chocolate) that was not evident in the nose. After the carbonation on this one settled down, it was tasty. Thanks for this one Tom!

Essentially opaque black but there’s not alot of light at redlight. Smallish head. Huge cofee aroma with touches of chocolate. A bit harsh with astringent over-extracted coffee flavors and a long bitter coffee finish. too harsh in the end, not very pleasant. Rerate: less harsh and astringent with a smoother and slightly sweeter presentation, with an easier finish that is just a more pleasant lingering coffee overtone. I’ll bump the numbers up from the older 3.1 rating.

Bottle courtesy of Unclemattie: Poured a cloudy copper/amber color with a light foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of sweet malt kind of took me by surprise with some dry hops. Taste is dominated by some sweet malt almost reminiscent of a barleywine with a dry hoppy finish which clash with the malt profile. Body is quite full with some average carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I didn’t like the mix between the sweet malt and the hops and it is not something I would wish to try again.

Perfect looking hazy golden/orange coloured body with a large dense tan head and bunches of bubbles rising from the bottom. This is absolutely perfect in appearance. Aroma of very fresh grassy & citrus hops, a strong malt backbone, pears, apricots and some yeast. Medium-bodied; Strong alcoholic flavour up front with fresh hops noticeable as well. Pit fruit tastes remain throughout coupled with a good dose of malt. Aftertaste shows well - some alcohol but mostly mild tastes definitely having hops the strongest. Overall, a good beer for the style - a bit too much malt and alcohol, but definitely worth trying! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 13-January-2008.
