I love these one of a kind special releases. Bomber pours deep gold with copper core and one inch light tan head. The aroma is moderate in strength containing floral, spice and a hint of bitter citrus hops. There’s also some faint malt sweetness underneath hinting at the tasty malt backbone to come in the flavor. The taste is smooth and contains even amounts of assorted hops, malt sweetness and a touch of grainy malt. To midway citrus hop bitterness builds faster than the sweet malt backbone creating a bitter grapefruit tartness that over shadows mild orange juice sweetness.

Hazy golden-amber. Chewy, oxidized nose with a berryish, apricotty fruitiness. Rounded bitterness, some really cloying doughy malts. Long, bittersweet finish in which the flavours don’t really even come together. Moreover, the hops aren’t terribly bright either.

Bottle from Utobeer. Paleish gold, very thin white head. Smells like a lager, it’s a bit dusty on finish. Not sure it’s a cream ale, bit of cardboard throughout. Some pilsner hops. Quite bitter on finish. Yep, just a little ugly, bit metallic.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 14 April 2008) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with notes of floral hops and tropical fruit. Slightly malty taste with fruity notes of lemon, tropical fruit, pineapple and a short finish with floral hops. Rather dry, making this light bodied brew quite drinkable. A decent thirst quencher, but hardly rocks my world.

Bright orangey amber color with a medium rocky head. Aroma of earthy grassy citric hops, and a grainy bready spicy malt and rye, in nearly equal portions. Flavor seems to mostly feature the citric cascades, malt is somewhat chewy and sticky with the spicy breadiness of the rye. Clean finish has a fair whack of bitterness. On the whole fairly balanced. Distinctly potable.

Bottle from Smoke Rise Bottle Shop in Stone Mountain, GA. The beer pours a mostly clear copper/amber color with a thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing. Floral hops, malt and rye in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops, grapefruit and rye flavors along with some bready malt in the background. The finish is hoppy with lingering floral notes, plus some rye and malt aftertaste. Pretty solid all around.

Looks like a cup of coffee. Heavy looking, opaque black with a tan-brown head that settled into a faint ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is all coffee with a slight booze aroma and maybe a touch of licorice if you can get beyond all the coffee. Flavor is all coffee, heavy roasted nutty flavor that doesn’t allow for much else. If you really search beyond the overwhelming coffee bitterness you might be able to notice a little grainy biscuit flavor and perhaps a touch of maple. Heavy mouthfeel and dry finish hide the strong alcohol. Coffee stouts can be tough going and this one could have maybe used a touch less coffee flavor. I love my stouts but this one was too one dimensional for me.

Snagged this one in a trade with unclemattie. Thanks Matt! This beer looks awesome. Opaque, thick, deep copper amber color with a thin white head. Smells very sweet, caramel, candy and toffee. Also plenty of milder citrus, orange and flowers. Flavor is also very sweet, chewy grains, candy, caramel, some biscuit with only mild citrus. Heavy mouthfeel, syrupy with a balanced finish mixing sweet candy and slight citrus bitterness. Despite the heavy malts and alcohol, this was very drinkable. I enjoyed this alot.

Thanks to UncleMattie for sending this one as part of my first trade. Pours a translicent, nearly opaque, orange, brown, caramel color with a thin, slightly off white head that faded fast. The aroma is balanced, citrus hops with other fruity notes prevalent (mango, pear). The hop aroma is mellowed with a distinct malt character that makes you think of caramel and chewy grains. Flavor is wonderful, the hops initially take a back seat to the sweet, sugary malts that taste like candy. The hops come in at the finish and bring milder citrus fruits (orange and tangerine). Very thick in the mouth with a lasting sweetness. You can really taste the difference in the malt character due to the amount of rye used. Unique for an IIPA and as it stands alone, delicious.
