Bottle sampled at Essen Winterbier festival 2015. Appears dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of herbs, caramel, overripe dark fruit, perfume and toffee. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at the Essen Winter Beer Festival, 2015. Poured a clear dark brown with a round off white head. The aroma is sweet malt, light caramel spice. The flavour is moderate sweet with a zesty fake sugar fruity light alcohol palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Donkergeel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig, licht zoetzuur met iets van citrus en thee. Heeft iets van een IPA.

Pours clear blonde, rather small white head that is not very stable. Smell is honey. Mild bitter (yeasty) touch. Taste is sharp, bitterness is there, midly. A decent amount of yeastyness, as well as a malty character. Honey is very hidden. Overcarbonated, and rather thin. Comes across as a simple beer (typical kind of thing in Belgium where a beer is created for an event. name. or local story, which often seems far more important than the actual beer itself, leading to uninspired, simple, boring beers. ) This one in perticular is OK, nothing really off. I like how well the honey blended in ( i would not have tasted it if I did not knew it was in here )

Bouteille 33cl de et partagée avec Tderoeck. Fin orangé, col blanc. Arôme est fruité modéré, agrumes, note de pamplemousse et !une once de tropical avec cet accompagnement levure belge qui empêche les effluves de vraiment convaincre. Le bouquet grains reste assez neutre mais typique de ce que l’on retrouve en quantité en Belgique. Palais offre un côté basique belge, épicé, fruité& avec ce léger rappel que l’on est bien face une IPA. Note de pamplemousse, alcool perce bien avec toujours ce profil belge. L’idée est bonne tout autant que cela ne soit pas contrecarré par une nécessité bien de chez nous à submerger la bière dans cette signature toute belge. Retrouver autant de fois le ’mot’ belge dans une notation n’est pas forcément une bonne chose, surtout lorsque l’on joue avec le style IPA.

F: huge, off-white, long lasting. C: dark amber hazy, opaque. A: malty, orange peels, citrusy, toffee, cookies, some brown sugar, spicy. T: very dusty 0,33l bottle from local Carrefour in Brussels, BB 10/03/15 !!, quite complex like, some citrusy, coriander, orange peels, melon, pineapple, some toffee sweetness, fruity cake, hint of some dusty/earthy like tones, yes not suitable for ageing, but interesting fresh and tasty, medium to full body, good carbo.

Slightly hazy golden coluor, a lot of tiny bubbles, large frothy white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma of pale malts, peach, apricot, orange, yeast, grass. Taste is light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, fudge. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, nice sweetbitter aftertaste with roasted malts, spicy notes and a light citrus twist. Not your typical blond but overall a pretty pleasant Belgian ale.

Bottle from Dranken Pyl. Occasional beer made for the 125 years of existence of a fanfare in Melsele. Medium thick, lacing, moussy, egg-white head over a lightly hazy ’old gold’ coloured beer, hazy orangey peach with deposit. Aroma of overripe gooseberries, bubblegum, orange peel, rotting grass, peach, banana, damp straw, wet paper, garden weeds and even a light hint of DMTS (burnt rubber) and stale urine, but not too off-putting. Estery onset of banana, gooseberry, passion fruit and peach, light citrus freshness, soft carbo, supple, lean and somewhat oily mouthfeel, lightly bready and caramelly malt sweetness underneath a mild Belgian phenolic yeastiness, finishing in ongoing malt sweetness balanced by a grassy and herbal hop bitterness as well as some ’jenever’-like alcohol which could have been better hidden. Very Belgian tripel with a certain rubbery and ureum-like quality to the nose, but in terms of pure flavour, this is quite acceptable, though nothing outstanding. It does confirm my assessment of Boelens beers showing more consistency and ’cleansiness’ in recent years, though.
