In the period after 1850, the De Meester-Boelens brewery was founded at the current address in the Kerkstraat. in 1897 the name changed to Boelens-De Meester. Brewing stopped during World WarI, after the war the family continued the business as a bottling and beer enterprise. In 1978 Kris Boelens took over the beer business from his father. He reintroduced beer brewing in Belsele in 1993. In 2016 his son Yannick Boelens joined the brewery.

Dusty honeyaroma. Honey flavor with plum, orange and some fruity sourness. Orange brown color, no head. Prickly mouthfeel. The beer looks rather ugly, but the flavor is OK. The used honey fits with this beer and doesn't annoy.

Chunks of yeast, just a little honey in the aroma, together with apple. Full bodied, almost buttery. Honeyish flavor, not coming forward too much. Hoppy, yeasty and some orange, apricot and apple. A bit of sourness and herbs. Not a bad beer, reasonably balanced.

Orange amber color, cloudy with bits of yeast. Strong orange and melon aroma. A fruity sourness with orange and melon. Yeasty and milky. Acidic, not the flemish red sourness as might be expected. Has its flaws, but still drinkable, though probably infected.

Bottle. Simple paper label. Honey color, little chunks of yeast. Yeast and vinegar in the smelly aroma. Initial flavor has pineapple and honey, but is overpowered by yeast flavors. Sorry, not good enough.

Pinkish gold color, lasting head. Strawberry aroma, you can smell it from a distance. The strawberry is less apparent in the flavor. It is there, but I can also taste a yeasty bitterness. Not entirely succeeded fruitbeer.

Blonde color with just a touch of pink. Buttery toffee aroma with just a bit of grassy hops. Hoppy, oily grapefruit flavor. Just a touch of yeast. By far the best beer from Boelens I’ve tasted.

Bottle @ home. Amber color. Yeast, pineapple and vegetable aroma. Yeasty cellar flavor, sulphury with some tropical fruit. Home brew like and disappointing, but gets a little better in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Orange blonde. malt, citrus and yeast in the aroma and flavor. Sharpish. Some vegetable notes in the finish. Not perfect, but quite nice. Bottle. tasted august 12. Golden color, Soft citrus, dust and some perfume in the aroma. Dusty, yeasty alcoholic flavor with some citrus. Should lower the rating, but will hold on for a while.

Oranjegeel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en licht zoet kruidig met iets van kaneel en houttonen. Smaak blijft erg lang hangen
Earlier Rating: 9/5/2015 Total Score: 3.2
Troebel lichtgeel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is hoppig bitter en fris zoetzuur, kruidig, ananas, abrikoos en vanille. Erg goed.
