Description
Regional brewery that is very known for both it's own brands, as well as their contract brews.
In the period after 1850, the De Meester-Boelens brewery was founded at the current address in the Kerkstraat. in 1897 the name changed to Boelens-De Meester. Brewing stopped during World WarI, after the war the family continued the business as a bottling and beer enterprise. In 1978 Kris Boelens took over the beer business from his father. He reintroduced beer brewing in Belsele in 1993. In 2016 his son Yannick Boelens joined the brewery.

Bottle thnx to the brewers. Pours darker blonde / amber. Small white head. Smell is rich, malty, Belgian style yeast ( esters and phenols, but mostly esters ), and soms spice-forward hops ( mildly ) . Taste is far more phenolix than estery, on the virge of too much, just not crossing it. A good malty base, providing a decent mouthfeel. Carbonation is rather low (for a Belgian style beer ) , which is great to me. Mild sweetness, mild bitterness. Mostly spicy due to the phenols. Decent beer.

Polecam

Thnx to the brewers! Pours unclear darker blonde. Small white head. Smell is estery, mild orange hoppyness, decent malty backbone. Taste is medium bitter, very high in esters, almost plastic-like by the intensity. The backbone is nice, aromatic ( Munich ?) malts. Decent body and carbonation. Free from major flaws, or at least they're not noticeable by the Esther intensity. The aftertaste is quite OK though, bit hoppy, malty ( nice maltyness!) decent carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle @ home. Hazy rusty orange golden color, average sized white head that diminishes quickly. Smell and taste malts, kinda old, sweetish, oxidation. Still drinkable but not very pleasant. Decent to medium body, average decent body.

New Waasmunster 'streekbier' developed by the guys behind Zilveren Haas in Lokeren. Named after an old second World War airfield. From tap at some summer pub in Lokeren, quite unexpectedly. Creamy, dense, membranous lacing, snow white, slowly opening but stable head on a hazy, pale orange-hued peach blonde beer. Aroma of peaches, dried camomile, banana, white bread, straw, sweet potato, raw chicory, honey, minerals, white pepper. Sweetish onset but nothing cloying, peach, pineapple and banana hints without going into overdrive in Belgian esteriness, crisp carbo but not harshly so, supple body. Cereally and lightly bready, even very slightly caramelly maltiness with a thin layer of residual, honeyish sweetness on top, leading to a relatively firm, floral, hayish and bit peppery, quite long-stretched hop bitterness, but the malt and fruity sweetness wins in the end; some yeasty notes but cleanly so. Cliché Belgian blonde - as usual with this kind of classic Belgian style 'gelegenheidsbieren', the story behind it is more interesting and complicated than the beer itself, but that said, this is clean, crisp, well-hopped and well-bodied without any obvious technical flaws, so within the vast ocean of 'easy' Belgian blondes and tripels, this is above average in terms of sheer quality. Have an extra point for that.

Bottle from somewhere in Gooik - thanks to Frank!
Beer 'commemorating' the Tongsneyders, an 18th century robbers' gang that had their hideout on the Kesterheide in Gooik. Apparently they cut off the tongues of their victims to maintain secrecy. Anywho, this one pours hazy ochre with a big, lasting, foamy, off-white head; lots of lacing; some floaties. Sweet & floral aroma of banana, pineapple, hay, honey, white bread, white sugar, flowers, hand soap even, juniper berries, garden herbs, some caramel. It tastes medium fruity sweet, some pineapple & banana, and light spicy bitter; hints of bread & yeast. Dryish, grassy & floral hoppy finish, lingering banana & honey sweetness, with warming jenever alcohol. Medium to full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Typical Boelens brew, quite the overload of herbs & flowers, but likeable, so please don't cut off my tongue while I'm drinking this.

Clear dark orange to amber beer, creamy dense off-white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of banana, sugary impression, bit of vanilla, some cookie dough, little chemical, band-aid notes. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet start, lots of banana, pretty bitter, pleasant at first, but then turning, rather chemical quickly. Aftertaste: pretty chemical, some more band-aid, bit grassy.
