From a bottle, this stuff smells pretty decent in a mild tart wild way. Taste is a big spicy punch in the palate. Lots of over the top spices laced with strong medicine beer. Personality is so strong you’d never notice it was carbonated.

Sample from 2012 bottle # 197/900. The beer pours a dark mahogany-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, red fruits, and sweet malt. The finish is fruity with a bourbon and roast malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle, thanks to Jeremy for the pain. Smells rich of peppers and intense heat. A little earthy, but mostly heat... Decent enough. Taste is pure heat... Instant shutdown. Easily the hottest beer I’ve ever had. Undrinkable really. I couldn’t bring myself to have more than an ounce.

On draught at the brewpub, this is the February selection in Elevator’s "PHD" program. The beer is a brownish-black color with a thin light beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Sticky short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, roast malt and subtle peppers. Medium-bodied with flavors of burnt malt, semi-sweet chocolate and mild chipotle pepper. The finish is chocolate malt up front with a mild peppery aftertaste. Nicely nuanced and pretty good all around.

12 oz bottle courtesy of shrubber85. As I popped the cap it was a mini gusher with massive fizzy head. Slow canted pour shows the large fizzy head that retained the whole glass. Aroma is wheat, hints of lemon and dusty yeast.

Flavor is sweet grain, lemon, weak banana and faint clove. The flavor overall is an American interpretation of the style because I don’t get authentic German yeast by-products. Still pretty nice. If they can tune down the carbonation it would score a bit higher.
