Description
Fürstenberg has been setting the standard for brewing and beer culture since 1283. And the tradition lives on: With a wide range of different beer specialties, the brewery leaves nothing to be desired: from our hoppy Premium Pilsener to our full-bodied Premium Lager and the fully matured Fürstenberg Non-Alcoholic or our sparkling-fresh wheat beers, Fürstenberg embodies a unique diversity in beer culture.

On January 18, 1283, King Rudolf I von Habsburg granted the lands and rights for Baar and Tunôeschingen - now known as Donaueschingen - in fief to Count Heinrich I von Fürstenberg. This included the right to brew beer and to issue concessions for brewing and serving food and drink and to regulate, tax and levy duties on brewing and the serving of food and drink.

After Count Joseph Wilhelm Ernst zu Fürstenberg moved his seat of power to Donaueschingen, the demand for our beer started to grow. Construction of the new brewery began in 1739 and the brewery hasn’t moved since.

In 2005 the company joined Brau Holding International, one of the biggest brewery groups in Germany, in order to secure the future of the Fürstenberg brewery.

Bottle. Like GMan71 I am not sure this is the right beer. It was called Premium Lager and I am assuming that is the Export. Poured a pale amber yellow with a reasonable white head. Sweet, faintly floral aroma. Medium body with quite fizzy but fine carbonation. Initially sweetish malt with floral hints. Pleasant hoppy bitterness develops. Some grassy, vegetable notes. Pleasant drink.

Bottle (kindly delivered by Quack-Duck): Visible carbonation, straw golden, mid-sized, quite firm and lacy white foam, sweet-malty nose with cardboardy and grassy traces; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied; harsh, grassy-bitter finish. Not very good.........

Bügelverschlußflasche (kindly delivered by Quack-Duck!): Clear golden with a greenish shine, delicate sweet pale-malty to dusty nose, sorrounded by hoppy and also metalliic traces; robust - mainly sweet - flavour, medium bodied, quite soft MF; solid sweet-grainy finish with a delicate alcoholic tinge. Decent stuff........

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Fine and creamy foam. Flavor could be a little bit more fruity, finish is too dry. An average hefeweizen.

(swing top bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Almost clear, greenish golden colour with a fluffy frothy white head. Slightly sweet and milky malt aroma with light traces of herbal and minimal metallic hops. Moderately bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate, almost crispy carbonation. Slightly chalky malty taste with herbal accents; dry-ish, well-rounded malty and herbal hoppy finish. Smells quite discreet but tastes fairly good.

Bügelverschlußflasche: The bottle doesn’t look old and boring at all, the question is, if the look of a bottle has any influence on the quality of the beer...? Deep golden, mid-sized, lacy white head, malty, a bit soapy, a bit perfumed nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; sweet-nutty finish with a light bitterness. a mediocre, malt-accented brew.......

The bottle looks old and boring. The beer is copper-colored, very much foam. Starts washy, modest sourish. Turns then spicy and really drinkable. Good beer.
