Fürstlich Fürstenbergische Brauerei
Commercial Brewery
in Donaueschingen,
Baden-Württemberg,
Germany 🇩🇪
Owned by
Paulaner Brauerei
Associated Venue: Fürstenberg Bräustüble
Established in 1283
On January 18, 1283, King Rudolf I von Habsburg granted the lands and rights for Baar and Tunôeschingen - now known as Donaueschingen - in fief to Count Heinrich I von Fürstenberg. This included the right to brew beer and to issue concessions for brewing and serving food and drink and to regulate, tax and levy duties on brewing and the serving of food and drink.
After Count Joseph Wilhelm Ernst zu Fürstenberg moved his seat of power to Donaueschingen, the demand for our beer started to grow. Construction of the new brewery began in 1739 and the brewery hasn’t moved since.
In 2005 the company joined Brau Holding International, one of the biggest brewery groups in Germany, in order to secure the future of the Fürstenberg brewery.

Bottle: Poured a dark brownish color dunkel with a big bubbly head with better then average retention. Aroma of cloves and banana is very weak with some sweet malt also noticeable. Taste of banana and cloves are again too subtle for the style IMO with a very light body. I guess this one is average at best but clearly not something I would seek again.

Can: Poured a pale yellow color pils with a big bubbly white head with average retention. Aroma of grassy malt is pleasant but a bit weak overall. Taste of semi-sweet malt with low hops level makes this beer rather boring. I’m not even sure if this is a pilsner by name only as it tends to taste and smells like a pale lager to me.

Bottle picked up at Sainsburys, Kidlington, 27-07-06. Golden in colour with white head, some maltyiness in the nose. Quite an easy drinking very decent pale lager malty in the taste with some hops and a touch on the dry side, really not bad at all.

500 mL can from Bieropholie. BB 05/2006. Golden lager with a thick white head. Liht crisp malt aroma, with a german hop signature, and mineral notes. Good crisp malt and sharp clean hop bitterness, medium body, makes this a perfect quaffer for a 40C day like today (31/05/06).

A pale orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel - and so is the flavor, while the mouthfeel is sticky.

A light yellow beer with a nice white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of straw and alcohol, the latter also giving it a touch of metal. The flavor is sweet and very malty, but also lightly alcoholic and metallic, leading to a dry alcoholic end. I’m surprised the alcohol is so present in as mild a beer as this.
