Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition.We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final.The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

Bottle @ my place. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are grass, hops, lavender, fruits and malt.

Bottle, 5%. Slightly hazy yellow with small white head. Aroma is malt, wheat, coriander and spices. Flavour is malt, wheat, yeast, spices, coriander, medium sweet, hop and a little bitter.

Bottle @ Saxo tasting. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, wheaty and coriander. Flavor is medium sweet. Sweet finish. 090116

Blond colour. Aroma and flavour have a bit of grass and yeast. Flavour also has a touch of orange zest. Thin and not very flavoursome.

(Draught at Delirium Tap Bar, Brussels, 14 Oct 2015) Pale yellow colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, malty nose with lemon, peaches and bready malt. Fruity, malty taste with notes of citrus, lemon peel, peaches, white bread and a gentle grassy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Refreshing and tasty witbier. Quite nice.

Cloudy blond color, small head. Soapy and spicy aroma. Dry mouthfeel, overcarbonated, soapy, strong bitterness.

Dark brown, medium beige head, nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, bit burnt, some yeast, oaky vanilla, bit winey. Taste is medium sweet chocolate and roasted malt, burnt, bit winey and sour, oak, spicy vanilla, touch of yeast, low herbal bitterness. Medium+ bodied, soft carbonation, bit oily.

75cl de et partagée avec Tderoeck. Couleur brune sur un col crémeux blanc-cassé. Arôme est malté grille avec un retro modéré de chocolat. Retrouve une petite pointe épicée mais dont les effluves principales restent centrées sur un malt chocolat. Le bouquet reste cependant clairement oriénté belge. Palais est de suite plus centré sur la levure qui dénature un peu le caractère de ce porter. Le malt est toutefois prenant avec chocolate dose, impression de lacto-cookie dough.
