On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a medium tan creamy head. Aroma is very dry and almost cardboardy, with bready notes and oats. Flavour confirms this, with stale cardboard notes dominating this to the point of making this a horrific drain pour. Absolutely vile. Seriously, Dogwood.

Draft - Lots of raw ginger. Jet brown with a decent light brown head. Big raw ginger notes with a touch of bitterness. Malts are non existent.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours s deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings pungent fresh ginger - not much else. Flavour is along the same lines: it's all ginger, with a medium body from the porter base. Unpleasant mix here. It's just a ginger bomb.

Cask at Big Rock Urban, Vancouver; 12 oz
Black color, beige compact head. Very nice aroma of chocolate and cherries, like Mon Chery (cherry in chocolate) or Schwarzwald cake (Black Forest). The light fruit acidity doesn’t blend well with the mild roasty chocolate flavor, and the vanilla extract is never a good idea in beer; soft mouthfeel; the final is soft too, with a mix of roasted malts and sour fruits. Too artificial.
The main feeling I get is "supermarket cake", eventually.

Draught at the brewery; 12 oz
Black color, small head. The ginger is more evident in the aroma and more subtle in the flavor; it blends well with the beer, but it brings out mostly the roasty character of this beer than the chocolate notes.
Nice.

Cloudy blond color with small head. Strong perfumy aroma, almonds. Dry and lean mouthfeel, strong sarsaparilla flavor, marzipan; it becomes soapy and artificial. No bitterness. Really tastes like the horrible artificial vanilla tea bags.
Weird, what is this supposed to be?
First, brew a good straight beer; then try to brew the weird stuff. Not the other way ’round...

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a hazy copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings earthy and floral hops, some fresh leafy qualities and biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with earthy floral hops, a touch of pine, and balanced by dry biscuity malt. Fairy hoppy, with a lingering bitterness. Clean and decently constructed, but has some fusels in the back end. Okay.

Cloudy light amber color, with small head. The aroma is very fruity, there is a lot of mango. Lean malt flavor, with light residual sweetness; in the front the hop is very nice, fruity and resiny (bitter oranges and mango), but in the final it gets a bit too strong, pithy bitterness.
Not very balanced, a bit rough, but still very good.
