Lost Coast Brewery was founded by Wendy Pound and Barbara Groom in 1989 in Eureka. The brewery outgrew the original location and moved to a larger building in Eureka in 1994. On August 20, 2014, they brewed their first batch of beer at another new facility just south of Eureka.

Dark brown in colour with a thick light brown head. Subtle aroma of roasted malt, nuts and a tiny bit of both chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied; Strong initial flavour of nuts, malt and that slight coffeeness. Aftertaste very subdued anly showing a tiny bit of the malt and hardly any of the other flavours. Overall, a good beer...actually good for the style-most closely related with a porter aside from the currently categorised brown ale. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at The Fresh Market in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Pitch black in colour with a dark-brown head. VERY nice looking! Smells of roasted malt, coffee and a bit of caramel! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong maltiness with some prune flavours. A bit of coffee and caramel, but not as much as the other two. Aftertaste pretty bittered from the coffee and malt. Overall, much better than average and one of the best stouts i've ever had! I got this twelve ounce bottle from Phil (haddon90) and sampled it in Knoxville, Tennessee on 26-September-2003.

Brown colour with a dense tan head. Very dark for the style...but nice! Strong floral and citrus hop components in the smell along with some sweet malt. Medium-bodied; Assertive bitterness in the taste with a full hop flavour. Aftertaste somewhat mild but definitaley bittered from the hops. Overall, this is almost exactly what I wasn't expecting from the beer and wasn't disapointed! Pick this style up if you are a fan of the style at all. I got this twelve ounce bottle in a trade with CaptainCougar! Thanks again Tom! I sampled this beer on 19-September-2003.

Cloudy brown, creamy, fluffy beige head. Light citrus nose.Good burst of malt, then citrusy hops with lasting, but not strong finish. Aug 2010 : Theimproved version has better balance due to a bigger malt backbone

Bottled (at the Rate Beer gathering at Flying Saucer, Addison).
Very dark brown. Raisin aroma. Clean and rather light bodied with velvetty finish. Plain, but enjoyable.

Lightly cocoa aroma. A tad dry for a sweet stout, but vwery smooth and easy to drink. Creamy, yet brief tan head on an opaque, black body. Malty, somewhat coffee-like, -a well-balanced stout.

From Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA. Pours a dark brown color with a medium thick and foamy light brown head. Minimal head retention and lacing. Aroma is alternatingly malty and nutty. Sweet roasted malt and caramel flavors. Finish is pretty weak and was not sustained throughout the glass. I found myself uninterested by the end. Still it starts out pretty well so that is worth something.

Virtual ebony colour, with thin foam. Rich roast & dark fruits - elegant coffee; black rye bread. Long, dry, roasty palate, with lively hopping and a dry finish.
