Tap at Blind Tiger, Mahnattan - 30/05/12. Clear copper with an off-white head. Sweet malts, citrus hop and a little buttery diacetyl on the nose. Floral and citrus hops on the palate, a little sweet malt and caramel and again a little buttery note. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation - average IPA.

Marigold and lemongrass nose, soil accents, banana hints. Cloudy amber, abundant sediment, headless. Lilly dominant flavor upfront, moonpie banana and marshmallow barge in at midpalate. Somewhat chemical in the finish,. A little resinous as well, which I find off putting with the typical weizen flavors. I attribute that to a weird gestalt between the floral hop notes and fruity hefe yeast esters. I really dig the idea of hoppy hefes, as my past rating will attest. I don’t think the selection of hops wa right for this base beer, however.

Bottle. Banana and wheat malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large head. Very sweet banana/orange and wheat malt flavor. Bitter alcoholic and light orange peel finish. Different - not bad but on the harsh side.

On tap at the Stags Head, Manhattan - 01/03/12. Dark dark brown verging on black with a good finger of tan head. Malt nose allied to slightly piney hops and a little licquorice. Piney citrus hops and medium roasted malts combine finishing with a nice bitterness note. Medium bodied amd carbonation with quite a dry finish. Enjoyable Black IPA.

Tap at the Ginger Man, Manhattan - 29/02/12. The darkest of browns with a dirty tan head, about a finger initially but soon thinned. Roasted malt on the nose, bitter dark chocolate, espresso coffee. The coffee really hits you on first taste, you get wood, chocolate, oak and some maple/syrup in the background. Medium bodied and carbonation, smooth drinking for 8.4% with the alcohol very well incorporated. I really enjoyed this one.

A golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, strange fruity malt with tangerine pulp, a bit off. In mouth, a chalky honey malt, sweet, oxidized, with orn grits, alcohol warmth, rather cloying. On tap at Somerville Summerfest, July 14, 2012.

22oz bomber split with Anndiesel. Unfiltered burgundy-red-orange, glowing. Foamy off-white/beige head. Interesting balance of an aroma, from cherry wood amber malt tones to a menthol citrus hop edge. A pretty decent and enjoyable beer, but the choice of hops maybe just doesn’t work here...or something. Cooling and tropical essence of the Simcoe hop interacts awkwardly with the big caramel and amber malt tones. You could call this an English Barleywine maybe. Interesting and unique, but not that well executed.
