Bottle from Half Time. Pours dark brown with a creamy light tan head. Mixed aroma of resin and cat pee. Near med body. Flavor is mild chocolate with resin and a touch of citrus. It’s dry and hoppy. Not harshly hoppy, but hoppy. The finish is ashy chocolate and a lot of hop. Pretty nicely done.

Aroma is strongly of instant coffee. Wormwood and toffee notes are underneath. Clear dark copper, medium yellow head. Again, more of a coffee flavor than espresso which dominates. A dry, tangy malt note seems lost and out of place. Malty and grainy bitter finish. Fizzy. Yes, it is as odd as you would imagine. Nice intensity and balance, just a weird juxtaposition of flavors that never mesh. No significant improvement upon warming.

Served on draft at Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a clear golden color with a thin frothy head. Poor head retention. Aroma of herbal hops and pale malts. Very similar taste. Medium bodied and pretty bland.

Oak, butter, cherries, and orange peel aroma. Clear ruby, thin yellow head, good lacing. Sweet cherry flavor initially, faint amount of diacetyl. Woody orange peel finish. Alcohol noticeable. Not awful, despite the presence of diacetyl.

Bomber from the Folsom Whole Foods. Pours dark ruddy copper/amber with a creamy beige head. Which did a very slight ring lace eventually. Aromas of mixed citrus/floral/pine hop over a pretty roasted malt backbone. Full bodied. Flavor is a bit indecipherable, it’s almost like chocolate and pine. With some moderately darkish fruits. Somewhat challenging. But it’s hoppy as heck, has lots of structure, and makes my mouth writhe in ecstasy. Sorta kinda. It finishes bitter and arguably dry. Also arguably not dry. This is a beer which has been so gifted with ingredients that it cannot fail to be brilliant.
