Bottle @ home. Dark brown appearance with a big brown head. Charred, roasty dark chocolate malty, light citrusy, piney hoppy aroma. Burnt chocolate malty, slightly acidic coffee, lightly fruity, charred piney flavor. Fairly typical black ipa and not all that interesting.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden orange appearance with a big off white head. Earthy citrusy hoppy, a touch toasty aroma that doesn’t smell incredibly fresh. Pretty tasty grapefruity, a bit resiny, earthy hoppy flavor with notes of toasted malts and light caramel. Pretty good but wish it was a bit fresher.

On tap. Pours with a black body and a tan head that lasts. Aromas are fruity, mild esters, citrus, light tropical fruit hop character, dry roast, coffee, mild bready malt. Flavors show a big dry coffee presence, balancing citrusy hops, grapefruit and pine. Nicely dry and seems mostly devoid of caramel malt (a good thing). Tangerine zest. Medium bubbles, dry with a lasting bitterness. Medium bodied.

Bottle during my birthday blowout at CBC, London. I think James bought this bottle to share. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Dusty cocoa nose. Big sweet flavor, tons of chocolate, dark sugar, light earthy bitterness, faint dark fruits. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, moderately roasty with lightly sticky dark sugar and dark chocolate. Nice beer overall. A ballsy stout.

Crisp, hazy copper coloured body with a deep manuka honey glow and a perfect, two centimetre tall tan head - brilliant. Aroma of pungent, rank, grassy and herbal hops with a bit more resin in the bunch, and a touch of alcohol - very nice smelling indeed. Medium-bodied; Grassy and herbal hoppy flavours at first with a nice light malty taste, a touch of sweetness at the end, and more hop bitterness. Aftertaste is nice, with some mellow grassy and herbal flavours but nothing over the top or ridiculous. Overall, a nice IPA, but not my favourite, however, a solid west-coast IPA that is nice to try. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 03-February-2012 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 27-March-2012.

On tap at Beermongers. Pours a clear golden color with a meidum white head. A sweet crisp hop nose. A very easygoing light flavor of grain balance with light fruity hops, light bitterness. Kind of bland but solid.

Bottle from Skjold Burne. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are sweet fruits, yeast, malt and hops. Nice and sweet. Full bodied and low carbonation.

Mostly clear, medium copper pour with a moderate, soapy lace - aromas of citrus, pineapple, mango, pine, light peppery character - lean, clean crystal maltiness leaves plenty of room for the hops to shine - a lot of peppery notes, moderate citrus, a strong earthy component - a potent but never abrasive bitterness - lightly floral and peppery finish - nice.
