Description
Gregory Hall founded Virtue Cider in 2011. He is known for his 20-year tenure as brewmaster at the Goose Island Beer Company, having won 14 consecutive Great American Beer Festival medals and pioneered bourbon barrel-aged beer with Bourbon County Stout. In the spring of 2011, Hall left Goose Island and embarked on a two-month pilgrimage to study the craft of cider, touring and tasting at top cidermakers in England and France. He brought his extensive experience and innovative style to launch Virtue Cider. In 2013, Hall brought the cidermaking venture as close as possible to one of the United States' best apple-growing states of Michigan and launched Virtue Cider in Fennville, Michigan.

From 2015 to 2023 Virtue was owned by ABInBev. Greg Hall bought the Cidery back in 2023.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this cider poured a bright yellow color with a trace white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was wood, apple juice and an earthy note. The flavor was flat, dry and tart with wood, earthiness and faint watered down apple juice. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

On tap at Haymeker NYC pours a totally clear gold with no head. Nose has... You guessed it, green apples. Flavor is apple juice and tart green apple. Merciful dry finish.

Bottle at Jester King. Pours a clear gold with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong oak and apple skin. Thin body, apple, pear, strong oak, light dry finish, very good.

Sample at The Green Lady. Clear pale golden color with an effervescent white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of apples, vine fruit and spice. Light to medium body with flavors of apple cider, white grape and spice. The finish is dry with an apple aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at CBC 2016, yellow session. Pours cloudy pale yellow, no head. Mostly apples in aroma and flavor. Sweetish and bit acidic. Too thin for my taste lacking in flavor and aroma.

Damn good! Tart/crisp apples; fruit peel/earthy spice/yeast/light funk. Tart/dry/crisp carb. Light lingering acidity. Great complexity. --- Beer merged from original tick of Virtue Cidre Nouveau on 04 Sep 2016 at 17:37 - Score: 8. Original review text:
